I hate seeing the word, "recipes" written as, "recipies." Drives me bonkers. It's so irrational. But there it is.
Also, I wish people would stop writing, "I use to go." And, "I was suppose to go." My brain is so tired.

I think I might be going through menopause. I sure am testy (not teste) lately. :-)

Your post brings to mind something that has always puzzled me. How did "used to" become a way of saying "in the past I did X" or "I once did Z"? I can't wrap my brain around how the phrase "used to" came into use for indicating something done in the past. Can anyone enlighten me?

It's one of those idiomatic expressions that just means what it means - and this particular one is defined by context.

"I'm not used to people questioning my advice; I used to be more highly respected."

I know, I know. But it still puzzles me if I think too much about it. It just doesn't make sense when you ponder the verb "to use". "Used to" does not equate to "accustomed to" or "in the past". I'm not arguing it's usage so much as puzzling over how that particular "usage " of "to use" came into being. Guess I just have to stop thinking about it. It hurts my brain.

Your question is one I've often pondered myself. I've also heard people say "I'm fina (sp?)..." to mean "I'm planning to..." or "I'm going to..." do something. I don't understand where that originates or how it came to be, at all.

That one I've never heard of. Maybe it's indigenous to your locale?

I don't know. I've heard it enough, though, to give me pause.
