Thank you very much for the explanation. Gone are the days when we could trust the announcers on radio and tv to be role models for good speech. Sheesh, now you can't even trust the BBC. The beeeb. Of all things. Hyper-correction.
That's where I have heard more errors using "I" when they should have used "me."
My daughter and I used one of those machines at the supermarket to rent a movie yesterday. On the main menu screen, there was a choice of languages: Egnlihs or Spanish.
Here's one that bugs the heck out of me. This is an excerpt from a post in another forum:
"This happened a long time ago but my kids think it's so funny..they will prolly tell this story at my Funeral."
I've seen the non-word, "prolly," half a dozen times in threads just in the past couple of days. What's up with that? Giving them the benefit of the doubt, I suppose it's the posters' shorthand for "probably," but it makes them look stupid!

Indeed. I can understand using the shorthand when texting on a phone's alpah-numeric key pad, but good grief, when you're using a keyboard, word-up, as opposed to man-up. I have heard it working it's way into spoken conversation, as well. That's the worst.
