or when people say "I could care less." It's "I COULDN'T care less."
That one drives me nut's. <<<haha.
I'll never forget a sign I saw once that advertised pizza slices for "$.50 cents a slice". I wanted to go in and hand them a penny cut in half and ask for a piece.
Both good ones, claud!
It bugs the heck out of me when people say, "I could care less." That makes no sense! My sister used to say that, and finally one day I explained to her that she should say "I couldn't care less," meaning that she cares the least she could possibly care. The light bulb went on for her, and she has said the phrase correctly ever since.
As for the "$.50 cents," that's a real eye-roller for me as well. I see signs like that fairly often. It's either 50 cents or $.50. It can't be both!
Something I see on signs all the time that drives me even more bonkers is "10 Items Or Less" at an express checkout at a store. Grrrrrrr. <smoke coming out of my ears> I'm tempted to print out a bunch of sheets of stickers with the word "Fewer" on them and make it my mission to go about pasting them over the word "Less" on every one of those signs! The only store I've ever seen where the express checkout signs are gramatically correct is Menards. Bless their hearts! Their signs actually say, "10 Items or Fewer"!

That one drives me nuts, and now you see so-called mainstream journalists using it as well. A million years ago the late, great Steve Allen wrote The National Jerk Test. If you said "I could care less", you were a jerk. Whenever anyone says that to me, I respond, "How much less could you care?"
And don't even get me started on ChOmping at the bit!

When someone told me they could care less, I would respond, "Really? You could? Well, I couldn't"
I read a pretty good article on a historical section of our county the other day, only to grit my teeth for a moment when the author mentioned that European's had settled in the area in the 17th century.
