You reminded me of me favorite joke!

Three poodles meet on a street corner. The little white poodle sidles up to the other two, "My name's Fifi: F-I-F-I." The brown poodle replies, "My name is Mimi: M-i-m-i." The black poodles gives them each the onceover and says, "My name is Fido: P-h-y-d-e-a-u-x!"

This post reminds me of the days in high school when I worked at a fruit market and in the bathroom there was a sign that read "employee's must wash there hands." It wasn't too long before I brought a sharpie to work one day haha.

They're going to the store.
They will go in their car, parked over there.

*sigh*

Photo caption in our newspaper this morning: "She is among the prominent performers who have never won a major..." Shouldn't it be "has won"? Or am I wrong? Isn't "has won" modifying "she" and not "performers"? If I'm wrong, my 7th grade English teacher will be annoyed.

Interesting point. Maybe all of the prominent performers never won a major... (and she is just one of them).

I moderate a car forum that will go unnamed to protect the innocent and the spelling errors I see are enough to give me a heart attack, especially because the English language is very near and dear to me. While I do send text messages, I annoy some people because mine consist of fully structured, punctuated and properly capitalized sentences with correct spelling.

I was all settled in for a good read until I saw this:

I spent the ladder part of 2004 finding a job.

Huh? whaaaaaa? I'm picturing a ladder and he's referring to the top of the ladder? Or is he still at the bottom? This stupidity destroyed the integrity of the entire post and I cannot go on.

I went for a walk last Sunday and passed a church that had on its sign outside, "The best time to fix the roof is when the sun is shinning."

And this morning a man with a fruitstand on Fifth Avenue advertised "Graps for sale."

I don't recall the short vowel/long vowel concept being so difficult to grasp, but first grade was a long time ago, so maybe I'm mistaken.

Well, it isn't going to get any better with the younger generations, I can tell you that. Spelling is no longer considered valuable in many schools, and they can have the computers fix typos by spell-check. They can turn in a good term paper but can't spell simple words on their own. Things is, good written communications skills are still required by many employers; how many people falsify themselves by relying on spell check for their resumes?

Texting doesn't help, either, and when I read a posting that consists of mostly acronyms that are undecipherable, it's obvious that the poster lives his/her life can't write.
