John Wayne said that all that matters is wearing a good hat and a good pair of boots. I've always assumed he meant that you may want to wear something in between.. hmmmm.

Guess I have to go to a "rodeo/ranch" type forum online to find out stuff like this. Or, call the Cheyenne Visitor's Center, or another Visitor's Center in Wyoming, and ask someone there.

According to Census Bureau, in 2019 43% of Wyoming residents were born in state, down very slightly from 2010. It is one of the lowest native rates with only Arizona, Alaska, DC, Florida and Nevada being lower.

About 5% of WY residents were born in California, 5% in Colorado, 4% in Montana. About 8,000 native Californians have moved to WY between 2010 and 2019. Probably at least a few thousand more since 2019. And more people not native to California but from there before latest move to Wyoming.

Only about 3,000 CO natives moved from CO to WY between 2010 and 2019 but surely more non CO natives made that move from CO as their most recent hop.

Just 0.3% of Cheyenne city residents list agriculture (or other land based activities like forestry and fishing) as their primary occupation. About 2.1% of residents of rural part of Laramie county. National average is 1.3%. Wyoming average is 3.4%. These numbers probably don't include folks who do it as a sideline or hobby ( for heritage or otherwise)

Current farmers and ranchers are very very rare in Cheyenne (1 in 333). Almost 97% of state are not currently and primarily farmers and ranchers. More were born to farming / ranching parents or grandparents. The older they are now the more likely, as with rest of country. In 1950 almost 2/3 of country lived in urbanized areas. Today it is pushing 85%. In 1950 WY was 50% urban / 50% rural. Now it is almost 70% urban.

Yes, people seem to be constantly moving in America. When we left Colorado in 2007, we were seeing more and more California license plates on the streets and freeways. Thing is, many had never lived in snow/winter before. One of the favorite things people here like to say to those asking about winter here, "we don't get that much snow at all and it's mostly gone in a day." Well, this is our second time living on the Front Range and that is all a bunch of crap! But, the newcomers tend to believe what they are told, move here and get the shock of their lives when a full-blown blizzard hits.

I don't know why, but there are those, even on this forum, that really dislike Cheyenne a whole lot. But, if newcomers can't afford to buy a house/property, they have to live in an apartment. Not everyplace in Wyoming have descent apartments.

As far as what people in Wyoming wear, all we know is what we like to wear. And, western clothing definitely isn't "costume". But, for those that only wear western attire for a rodeo, and then put most of it in their closet for the next year, we don't do that. We are 100% proud of our western clothing, when we wear it.

We know that Wyoming is sort of like Colorado, not exactly the way it was years ago, but it is still Wyoming, like Montana is still Montana.

I’d love to read more of that data, where can I get the source material?
