Description: Put on your walking shoes and grab a hat and a jug of water so you’ll be all set for a morning or evening of swap meeting. It’s called the Tanque Verde Swap Meet because it started out on the corner of Tanque Verde and Grant Roads in the days when there used to be enough land to accommodate it. It moved but retained its name.There’s plenty of parking and dust, but buyers can find some good bargains and interesting items here. Most days you’ll even find vendors selling some great produce from Mexico such as tomatoes, watermelons, limes, peppers, avocados, and mangos. The swap meet is open from 3 to 11 p.m. Thurs and Fri; 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sat. On Sun hours are from 7 a.m. to sundown.

Description: Compared to more modern outlet centers, VF Factory Outlet is small. But that may be a blessing for folks who don’t want to walk a mile to shop. There are no more than a dozen indoor stores, carrying apparel, accessories, luggage, housewares, and party and paper products. Brand names include Vanity Fair, Wrangler, Lee, Healthtex, and Jantzen. It’s a bit tricky to get to, however, so look for the Palo Verde Inn on S. Julian Drive—you’ll see the outlet building almost adjacent to it.
