Description: When the downtown Christmas lights come on, the parade begins. It starts around 5:30 p.m. the Friday after Thanksgiving, heads through the main shopping district, and ends at the Chamber of Commerce around 7 p.m. Santa’s sleigh is always the last float in line. Onlookers dress in winter woolens, parkas, and blankets. On a mild evening, a jacket will do. If it’s cold, some people wear everything they’ve got. No matter what the thermometer says, the sight is heartwarming—and free. Stores downtown stay open to sell Christmas goods and warm refreshments.
