Description: The Osterville Historical Society operates a colorful museum within the Jonathan Parker House, which was built as a half-house in 1824. The exceptional displays include a large painting of George Washington at Valley Forge by Jean Baptiste Adolphe Gilbert, a Victorian Room, and a children’s room that contains dolls, toys, and two beautiful doll houses, one made in 1870. Behind the Jonathan Parker House rests a boathouse containing historic Crosby catboats and Wianno Seniors and Juniors—all these styles of boats were designed in Osterville. Also on the grounds is the mid-18th-century Cammett House, which is the second-oldest house in Osterville and provides a look at early architecture, including a root cellar and beehive oven. From mid-June to mid-Sept, the historical society museum is open Wed through Sat, but hours and activities vary so it is best to call ahead.
