Description: Edward Gorey, a prolific and distinctive artist, illustrator, and author, lived out the last years of his life here, in what he called the “Elephant House.” It is now a small museum dedicated to preserving his work and introducing it to fresh eyes. Best known for his animated opening credits to the PBS series Mystery and for dark curios like The Gashlycrumb Tinies, Gorey was an engaging talent. You’ll see countless drawings, adolescent diaries—even his favorite yellow sweater. You’ll also learn about his work in the Cape theater community and at least one room will be a hit with the little ones: Gorey was an ardent advocate of animal welfare, so one room is devoted to animals and suitable for kindergartners. Open Wed through Sun (hours vary in the off-season). Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for students and seniors, $2 for ages 6 to 12, under age 6 free.
