Description: Held in the fall, typically in mid-Oct, the Hamptons International Film Festival was founded with the goal of celebrating independent film in all genres. The festival selects films that express fresh voices and different global perspectives. For almost 20 years, this five-day festival has attracted some of Hollywood’s biggest names, both as participants and attendees.In a typical year more than 100 films, from more than 20 countries, are screened as part of the festival. Awards worth over $200,000 are presented. The Hamptons International Film Festival is an Academy-qualifying festival for short films, but also accepts documentaries, narratives, and other film genres. Being one of the most prestigious film festivals in the area, the Hamptons International Film Festival often has the honor of being the regional or world premier venue for major independent films. For example, the festival hosted the East Coast premier of the eight-time Academy Award–winning film Slum Dog Millionaire in 2008.
