Description: The Deep Deuce is located in an area settled in the Land Run of 1889 by the first African Americans to come to Oklahoma City. The Deep Deuce area, called Deep Second for some time, was home to jazz legends Jimmy Rushing and Charlie Christian and author Ralph Ellison. The restaurant’s building was built in the early 1900s by Jimmy Rushing’s father, Andrew. In the late 1930s and early 1940s it was a medical clinic. Today, guests can see bits and pieces of Oklahoma City’s history everywhere here. A pew from the Calvary Baptist Church where Martin Luther King Jr. applied to be a minister was made into a bar top and granite blocks from the destroyed Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building were used for the patio. Those who enjoy the nightlife won’t be disappointed. Specialty drinks include the Deep Deuce Hurricane, the Deuce LIT, and the Blues Traveler. In celebration of the drinks, there is a cocktail of the month every month. Special events are held here. Check the Web site to see what’s happening at Deep Deuce.
