Description: Located minutes from the capitol, zoo, and Remington Park, this barbeque restaurant has built a reputation for fine barbeque with sides that will be remembered.Opened in 1935 as the Silver Club, it has a notable history. The Silver Club soon became the Oakcliff Nite Club and in 1939, it changed owners again and opened as the Ramada Club. The Ramada Club was known as the most modern and beautiful nightclub in the state. It was also known for its unsavory reputation. Law enforcement officials raided the club on several occasions and confiscated everything from slot machines to gambling dice. Guests brought their own alcohol in brown bags and the club provided tonic water, soda, and so forth.Inside, guests could sit in one of the many private dining rooms that were built like horse stables around the east and west walls of the main dining area. Each year, the name of the winning horse of the Kentucky Derby would be painted above a room. In 1981, after another name change, the County Line opened. With its 1940s atmosphere preserved, guests can still sit in one of the horse stable rooms and enjoy lickin’ good barbecue. From ribs and brisket, to homemade potato salad and bread, this restaurant is notorious once again, but now for the food it serves. Portions are large and ample. Some will say messy, but that shouldn’t stop anyone from coming. After the meal, warm, wet washrags are brought to the table so guests can clean up before leaving. The Country Line is open Sun through Thurs from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Fri and Sat from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
