Description: Part of the state system of higher education, Langston, historically a school for African Americans, now serves a diverse, multicultural population. Like its neighbor, Oklahoma State University–Tulsa, it teaches junior, senior, and graduate-level courses. Students take their first two years elsewhere, often at Tulsa Community College. Also like OSU, there is no student housing. The school has a brand-new facility and serves a student population of between 500 and 550 students. All faculty members hold advanced degrees and classes are small. Situated just north of downtown, the university does not have a parking problem. That, plus the most affordable tuition in town, makes Langston a good choice.Bachelor’s degrees are granted in accounting, business administration, computer and information systems, corrections/criminal justice, elementary education, management information systems, management, liberal education, nursing, psychology, rehabilitation services, sociology, and special education. Master’s programs include entrepreneurial studies, rehabilitation counseling, and urban education.Langston is also one of nine public universities participating in the Regent’s Reach Higher program, designed for adults who have completed some college but never finished a degree. Flexible class schedules and online learning will facilitate completion and result in a bachelor’s degree in organizational leadership. The large building housing the classrooms also features a student lounge, computer labs, and a learning resource center. There are numerous student clubs and associations. Tuition (minus fees) was $2,676 for the 2009–2010 school year.
