Description: Located on what was formerly the Amoco Research Facility campus, the Schusterman Center consists of a number of buildings on a large, attractively landscaped site. This isn’t a school where students start before going off to college. The average age of a student here is 38, typically working full time. The University has six bachelor’s degree programs. Bachelor of science degrees are offered in medical imaging and radiation science radiography; radiation sciences sonography; early-childhood education; and nursing. There’s a bachelor of arts program in liberal studies, and bachelor of arts or science degrees are offered in multidisciplinary studies. There are master’s programs in architecture, arts and sciences, education, engineering, nursing, and public health, and doctoral programs in medicine, physical therapy, education, engineering, and pharmacy. There are 10 medical residency programs. In addition, the school offers certification in Kodály (an approach to music education).The Oklahoma University School of Community Medicine combines both preventive and public-health education with health care of individuals. The school has just joined in partnership with IBM to develop an information-based, community health care model that will utilize digital health-information technology to provide coordinated, patient-centered care.Student services include counseling, career services, computer labs, a writing lab, fitness center, lounges, and a cafe. There are several student organizations, including a student association, but campus life is not the focus of the school. All programs do, however, have a community service component, and students participate each year in the nationwide Big Event—again, involving community service.Tuition can change and fees vary widely from one program to another. For 2009, based on a 15-hour semester load and per-credit-hour rate, tuition was $7,170 for a year.
