Description: With a history going back to the early days of Tulsa aviation, Spartan was established in 1928. They offer associate’s degrees in avionics, aviation maintenance, quality control and nondestructive testing, and pilot training. In addition, students can work toward—and earn—a bachelor of science degree in aviation technology management. While the primary focus is on a career in aviation, training can equip students for technical opportunities in other industries. The professional pilot program trains both commercial and private pilots. The flight program facilities include the school’s own control tower, 50 airplanes, and three simulators.Over the years, Spartan has prepared approximately 90,000 pilots, aviation mechanics, and technicians. The school offers career-placement services and student housing, Facilities include a cafeteria, library, student store where books or tools can be purchased, and student activity centers. Current student enrollment is about 1,000 students. Tuition for 2009–2010 was $14,570 for technical programs and $18,313 for flight programs. Financial counseling services help with tuition.
