Description: If quiet, spacious, shady, and close to wildlife are the words you’d use to describe your ideal campsite, you’d do well to check out this place. You’ll be nearly surrounded by USDA Forest Service land that invites you to follow wildlife trails on a hike. (There are no marked trails.) Smack-dab between the city of Custer to the west and Custer State Park to the east—either one is just 1.5 miles away—the campground can accommodate more than 30 tents in a grassy meadow. For RVs there are 21 full-hookup sites plus several more with electricity only and cable TV. Two camping cabins are also available. See the Accommodations chapter to find out about the modern, year-round log cabins. Tents and RVs are welcome between mid-Apr and late Oct. Prices are $24 for a tent site and $29 to $33 to park your RV. Camping cabins are $57 a night.
