Richmond Folk Festival - Tours & Attractions - Richmond, Virginia

City: Richmond, VA
Category: Tours & Attractions

Description: Richmond’s favorite festival isn’t an adult-only affair. Besides special children’s activities designed to introduce them to music from many cultures, interactive art activities take place during the day. But that’s almost superfluous because kids just love hearing the music and dancing along to it. Upon entering the festival off 2nd Street, the first stage is a perfect one to park with young children—less walking, proximity to food and drink vendors, and a great big hill that you can lounge on or roll down, depending on the age range of your group. Flat areas for dancing and spinning and all-around socializing make it perfect for families with children. Don’t forget the sunscreen, though, if you’re there during the day. Other venues throughout the festival are worth visiting, depending on the musical lineup; just remember that if you walk down the hill, you’re going to have to climb back up. Stamina is key. Bring cash for food and drink. Find more about the Folk Festival in the “Annual Events” chapter. It’s free to listen, though donations are appreciated and necessary to keep it coming back every year.
