Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Scattershooting / Taking Advantage Of A Tax-Free Weekend

While you're probably either getting some weekend shopping done or just sitting in your cool habitat and cranking up the cold A/C air to keep you chilled, take pause right here, because you and I are once again on the outskirts and about to do some Scattershooting....

********

You usually think about this when school is about to start. I think about it when I want to get a few things and wish to save money. Whatever everyone's reason is, it's the annual Tax-Free Weekend at stores across America. I took the time to go to the department store and get me a couple of short-sleeved island shirts, as some old ones had already gotten too small. They'll come in handy next weekend on a one-nighter to Houston (going to see the Astros). I'll also have them for my upcoming trip to South Padre Island this October as The Casester makes his return to the beach.

I didn't get to do much more spending on this tax-free weekend, as a big gob of money had to go into some car maintenance. Three hundred and plenty got spent on some power-steering service at my local Toyota shop. In the meantime, I hope you parents of kids out there get some good deals on school supplies and other things. Enjoy it, folks!

Speaking of money, this gizzard still has not received his tax refund from the IRS. You won't believe this, but other folks still haven't, either. I checked the .gov website a couple of days ago, and the refund is still being processed, and it's August.

More proof that our U.S. government is in very bad shape.

Something fishy is going on in the tech industry, and it might have something to do with your future aquarium. If you intend to get one, that is.

My recent shopping spree at Buc-ee's in Terrell, Texas, brought in some new Buc-ee's specially-made blackberry and peach preserves. I had a little of each this morning with my biscuits for my Saturday breakfast. Mighty good. And no fat added, either. Also in my stash is some Buc-ee's barbecue sauce. I'll incorporate it into a future supper one of these days, hopefully with brisket or sausage....

I'm viewing my television a little more carefully as a certain longtime program is about to leave the airwaves in September. The long-running "Sabado Gigante" has been cancelled by Univision after 53 years on the air. The last original episode (and last ever) will be on Saturday, September 19. I may not be real fluent in Spanish, but I'm sad to see that show go. The show is a big Saturday tradition on television, no matter what language you speak. Host Don Francisco has been a legend in Latin television for many years and is a household name. His female assistants (models?) on the program are going to also be missed. They were quite great to look at. Wish I know who they were; they're not identified anywhere on Wikipedia or the TV website, especially the one wearing the skin-tight, Carolina-colored skirt. And, yes, I would ask her out....

Personally, I prefer flossing when I get food particles stuck between my teeth. The following suggests there may be something better (and unexpected) to clean teeth. I'm not believing it, but here it is for your perusal and your curiosity.

'60s on 6 midday jock Pat St John is taking Tuesday off. The reason? Some technical guys are going in to do more work in his studio. The guy is still having technical problems and whatever is disrupting the satellite feed still cuts into the music selections and the talk. Since his move to San Diego, his program has been a train wreck. Oh, I still love listening to it and I always look forward to his show when I can, but the technical problems are still plaguing him to this day. You don't hear those problems when Phlash, Dave, and Brucie are on.

You know you're in the big leagues, Pat. You know that. Try to get the darn thing fixed.

There's a new currency being unveiled. It's, errr, probably not what you might be thinking. It has something to do with a kiddie park....

You know what I think about when I think of Barack Hussein Obama's Iran nuclear arms deal. I'm reminded of Marvin The Martian from the old Bugs Bunny cartoons, about how he wanted to blow up the planet Earth by using his space modulator. "The Earth will be gone in just a few seconds". Well, that's the same attitude by our U.S. "president" as he is basically surrendering to Iran and letting them take hold of a nuclear weapon aimed at doing damage to my beloved America. Just one thought: If Obama were to blow this country up, just where is he going to go play golf?

Marching band season is in full swing once more. Another August abounds, and high school marching bands are gearing up for another round of football halftimes and marching band contests. In Frisco, Texas, things will be interesting to watch. It's a state year for the district (The University Interscholastic League holds state challenges every two years in every classification), and schools like Wakeland, Centennial, Liberty, and Frisco High are preparing for such an event. It's expected that Wakeland and Centennial may go back to San Antonio in November, but you never know. In addition to the varsity football games that I plan to attend involving seven different Frisco high schools, I'll also be in attendance for at least three junior varsity games involving the new Reedy High School, whose green, silver, and blue Lions begin play in football, along with their new band.

Stay tuned for more updates right here.

The Houston Astros are trying to stay on top in the American League West race. Can they get past their current struggles? I'll tell you more real soon.

And there you are.

Belatedly, a Google search got me to identify the lady from Sabado Gigante who had my full attention earlier. She's former beauty queen Vanessa De Roide.

I heard something about Russia hacking the IRS and getting thousands of dollars stolen from Americans. That may have been why a lot of people didn't get their refunds in a timely manner.

And I've been to Buc-ee's, too, Case. Man, that place is crowded every location I end up at. It boggles my mind how popular it's become.

I wish you well on your Padre plans.

Republicans are going to regret not impeaching Obama. Anything he does anymore is just mere foolishness.
