Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Tooth Be Told? Addition By Extraction

Posted 09-15-2016 at 09:20 PM by case44

Sometimes, one takes the good with the bad. Other times, one replaces the bad with the good.

The tooth in the lower bridge where I've had a root canal done several years back had acted up a few months ago, and by the time I got to the specialist, the tooth could no longer be saved. So, this writer had to see another specialist..........to extract the tooth!

It had become time for that, as much as I hate losing body parts. First, my thyroid six years ago, and now, this. While I'll try to hide the trailer hick image that the lower bridge will present in the interim, a replacement tooth will be in the offing. How fun. And how expensive, too. For the next few weeks, I have to stay away from the affected area as much as possible while either eating or brushing my teeth. For a couple of days at this moment, I'll need to keep it limited to softer foods and nothing hard. Pancakes at the Original Pancake House do sound good, but I'll do that in the morning for my weekly Friday breakfast. As long as I protect that area, I should be fine. I'll need to empty those medicine pills for the pain, and they should be gone in a few days.

Will I let this situation stop my life? Heck, no.

Saturday has me going to Athens, TX, to the Fletcher Davis Hamburger Festival in the Square, which I attended last year. I plan to go again, but I have to avoid potato chips. Any burger I order from the kiosks will have to be sliced up with a plastic knife. No onions or pickles, though most pickles generally are soft. I tell you the tooth --- er, truth, --- I don't want to take a chance that I will regret later on.

Two more appointments for the replacement tooth and all the things that precede it will come later on. I'll be visiting the good dentist in a couple of weeks for him to make sure I'm okay. By the way, as for that tooth that got extracted? The surgeon made an interesting discovery after he made the pull. The tooth had actually split, something I didn't notice when it was still in, and something that was not discovered on my last two dental visits. Guess he did it himself, right?

I can't wait to see what my prospective new chomper might look like. That day will come.
