Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Gas Station Wars In Lubbock? Stay Tuned

Posted 03-08-2022 at 09:12 PM by case44

Once upon a not-so-long-ago, I noticed new signs around Lubbock after reading about this sort of thing on Lubbock In The Loop. Those signs told drivers about a new Circle K gas station and convenience store being built at such-and-such location in the Hub City.

In fact, your writer mentioned this on Case's Column a little while back.

Well, in recent times, Allsup's, already a West Texas fixture, announced that they are building at least one new location in Lubbock, albeit in a rather unusual setting. It'll be across from the Texas Tech University campus in a space once occupied by The Arrogant Texan, a former barbecue/Amy's Ice Cream hangout. It apparently didn't sell as well as hoped. I'm still scratching my head wondering why Allsup's hadn't previously built anything in Lubbock....

Now, we come to today, and Ol' Case again skimmed over a new update from Lubbock In The Loop, and, lo and behold, another gas/convenience store chain is making its way to the Hub City, and the folks on that chain's website are getting a little giddy. Amarillo's Toot'n Totum is preparing to bring their brand 124 miles to the south. Seems like everyone now wants to move into Lubbock. Here's that linkage for the masses:

https://www.tootntotum.com/locations#section-458363

The Lubbock outlets planned are:

Slide at 114th
Slide near the North Loop
Zenith inside the Southeast Triangle (Slaton Hwy)
Milwaukee at 50th
Milwaukee at 4th
Upland at 82nd
U.S. Hwy 87 at 98th

And they said that there might be more, too. I predict some of the surrounding areas will likely see a Toot'n Totum. They're all over Amarillo and the Panhandle, having just been up there in November for sight-seeing, but I'll admit, I didn't really see this coming. Nonetheless, here it does come.

Lubbock will have its hands full as the Gas Station Wars begin in earnest. Fill-er up!
