The Loss of a Wonderful Pet

Did you ever loose a beloved pet?
I am sad thinking back at this loss.
I think it is because it was this exact time last year that we put our Lhasa to rest.
I watched my husband climb to the top of the crest of the hill....so very upset, digging her final resting place.
It sat there, just an open hole for awhile for awhile........because we couldn't take that last needed step.
When it was over, I carried her in my arms, blanket around her to keep her "warm"........As hard as it was I wanted to save my husband this task, she was his buddy, she followed him everywhere.........for some reason......Peaches clung to men.
When we arrived at that moment....
Hubby was frantically putting fresh sand down........for reasons I just dont' know.
Later our little fellows would climb the mountain, with their Mom ,and stare at the pile of rocks and reply " I just don't know what to say Mom".......Little heads bent down, staring at the pile of dirt and stone.
Another would run out and tell us instantly " he was sorry about the loss of our Peaches" ( how special of him)
Peaches played golf........did you ever know a dog to like the game of golf? Well, she did........and she'd return the ball and drop it at your feet.
When she was little she'd grab the hat off of someone relaxing on the floor, and run with it.........just take off.
To the laugh and delight of all of us looking on......except the hat owner who wildly chased her round and round.
She usually won.
I've had other dogs, perhaps sweeter , a bit less to handle .......but no dog so spunky. I think her sillyness and spunk endeared her to us.
She loved to swim in a pool.....and the little puddles at the base of a pier at the ocean.
She loved ocean walks.......
I think about how we love our pets......
How they become our family......
I miss her today........and it makes me cry......
But, she had a wonderful life.....and it was a great ride. Can we ask for more?

This story makes me so sad because it makes me think that one day my Molly ( 9 yr old Lab) will not be here for us either...

What a tribute. They truly do become part of our families. We baby our little Lucky. Hurts to think of him not being around someday. Hugs.

I have to say that the Duramax that our 14 year old is on helps his arthritis very well. Without it I don't think he would be able to climb one step. He gets 1/2 a pill per day..........and has for over 3 years. Its a godsend, that med.
Thank You everyone, and may our dogs life a wonderful life........just as "The Peach" did......long and wonderful.Posted 07-18-2008 at 04:12 PM by Summering -
