Now that your unpacked and got to test drive the area for a bit, encountered some locals and yokels, and hopefully some actual people that moved to the area from your home town or state its time to list the likes you have of your new or semi-new, or heck if the area is your native home than by all means and ways list what you like! Y'all got it? Well here goes!

Weather! You like or not!
Year round flowers!
Long springs!
Longer Autumns!
Shorts year round! For the hearty ones that is.
Variety of sub divisions to chose from!
Snow is a neat event versus a ho-hum not again event!
No rust on older cars! Amazing if your from the Northeast!
Can fish year round without cutting holes in the water (ice) for us North Easterners!
Pretty country side is usually only 5 minutes or less from where you live anywhere in the triangle.
People R People. No matter what they say!
Day trip to Mountains!
Day trip to Ocean!
And in a lot cases no trip at all to the many lakes, ponds, river, and streams that spot the area!
Good food can be had by all and more is always welcome irregardless if they are called viddles or pickins!
Out away from the city lights the sky at night explodes with the many stars that fill the emptiness of space with the occasional flying star to catch a dream or two on!
Groceries can be cheaper but we all have to eat!

Sure it takes time to get use to this place, remember the place you came from was called home and that is never a easy place to replace! But give it time, explore the area and get involved and this place too will be your new home not only in name but in feeling!

May the triangle, RDU, RTP, Crossroads, the Quay, Wake Forest, Knightdale, Apex, Raleigh, Durham, Zebulon, Oxford, Mossisville, Franklinton, Youngsville, Chapel Hill, Henderson, ...seems like I am forgetting somewhere....????......Oh yea! and Cary, be with you!

Oh Tarheels! I forgot to number the above as I did say I would count thy ways!

Wake Forest, NC. located in Wake County NC. Some call it Wake's Forest of the Triangle....Ok maybe that's just me. But if you come from the North East, Wake Forest seems to fit. It has some rolling hills and many farming areas.

It has a small town feel but close to Raleigh, you could be down town Raleigh, depending on time of day in about 15 to 30 minutes. You can be at the Virginia border in less than an hour.

It has old Historical homes and some new subdivisions. It certainly worth a look see if your looking and seeing the area. It has transplants from New Jersey, New York, and many other NE State and Mid West and California and....well you get the idea people from all over this great country now calls Wake Forest home!

C'mon down, over, left, or right and check it out you may just like what you see.

Thursday November 29, 2012 and its 28.2 degrees heading on up to a high of 55. Nice! Nice is also a word to us the morning sky. Nice bright noon shining down on us. In terms of incandescent bulb wattage I will give it a 100 Watt. The only thing that will dim its glow is clouds and the sun coming up and dimming the moons shine! But while it was out it was truly nice!

Speaking of nice it reminds me of some of the neighbors we had growing up. They always gave the best Halloween treats, gave us candy when it was not even Halloween, asked what we were getting for Christmas. Conversely there were the not so nice people in the neighborhood. One on particular was an old gentleman that lived on one corner of our daily hangout. His mission was to report our activities to our parents seemingly on a daily basis. We were either to loud, we need to find something better to do preferably somewhere else. He use to sit on his porch and just watch us. He lived in a row of houses all connected together. Ones like you see in many cities around the country. He lived on an end unit right on the corner. The front is his house was the street we played on and the side of his house was an alley way that connected the street I lived on and the corner we all hung out on. Across the street from has house was the single family home of my cousin. So really we were hanging out and playing in front of my cousin house. So, this gentleman really didn't have cause to complain but he did. Behind these row houses was another dead end alley and the people of the row houses had their yards and a place to park. It was a dirt alley way and some time way back when some left an abandoned car in the alley. This car was our place to play on and in. It was out spaceship and our gangster car. It was in bad shape, the wheels were flat, few windows were left in it and it just was there. No one really has ownership of it.

Well the neighbor that had the problem with us also had a real problem with this abandoned car. In fact he use to ask us to take it apart to get rid of it. One day he even came out with a hacksaw and asked us to start to cut up the car. Needless to say we did not do it. This was our playground equipment growing up and we were not about to 'part' ways with it if you know what I mean. Even thou the car was an eyesore to him and many others it was just a 'Nice' thing to us!

Quote of the day from Robin Yount:

"You know when I was a young boy I use to play baseball in the back yard or in the street with my brothers or the neighborhood kids. We used broken bats and plastic golf balls and played for hours and hours."

Happy Thursday and do you know your neighbors and neighborhood?

Friday November 30, 2012 and its 35.3 degrees outside heading on up to 63 degrees. Its Friday and the last day of the workweek for some of us and the last day of the month of November. Good grief Charlie Brown, do you know where the month went? The afterburners were certainly on this month and next month will be warp speed. I am busier than a one armed paperhanger so this will be short and sweet.........in fact it will include my Quote of the day as well.....

This was from 1 Peter 4:10 (KJV) As every man hath received the gift, even so administer the same to one another, as good stewards to the manifold grace of God.

Someone else ask you the meaning of life....the above is certainly one you can refer them to. Bottom line we all share this beautiful blue planet to help, guide, and keep our neighbors. For the month of December work hard to do just that.......Please.

Have a wonderful weekend and you know the bonfire will be burning brightly into the nights sky where I am......

Monday December 3, 2012 and its 57.6 degrees outside heading on up to a sunny 72 degrees. Now that's sunshine. baby! Was a beautiful weekend too. Perfect Christmas decorating weather. But before I go there I must say there was an anxious driver on Rt 540 this morning. He almost drove through my truck to pass me. He passed most of the standard vehicle safety checks, I can assure you of that. In one split second his flashing high beams, horn, blinker, brakes all performed perfectly. Not sure the extreme hurry this individual was in this am. Maybe his Starbucks kicked in, maybe his cell phone went off, maybe he just had to go to the lavatory. But what ever had happened his almost did not see me in the middle lane and came up upon me like a jack rabbit on a turtle. I did learn one thing that my car does not respond to flashing lights, horns, or certain fingers. All I can say to this gentleman is please slow down and keep your eyes on the road, for all our sakes!

All reckless drivers aside, its Monday, it December, and its a beautiful day. The weekend past brought yard clean up, bonfire, and Christmas decorations inside and out. All in all it was a wonderful weekend but than again most of them are. This was one of those rare years where all the lights worked right from the boxes stored in the attic. This was also the weekend that started Advent which marks the season for the preparation of the coming of Jesus. After all can't have CHRIST-mas without Christ no matter how many HDTV's you buy or decorations you put up. When preparing for Christmas the twinkle in ones eye is far brighter than all the twinkling lights one can put up when the twinkle is flickering in faith and love and hope. So to kick off this holiday season let the twinkle in your eye guide all those who don't see the way and the light.

Quote of the day from Elbert Hubbard:

“God will not look you over for medals, degrees or diplomas but for scars.”

Tuesday December 4, 2012 and its a sunny 45.9 degrees heading on up to 75 degrees! Sweet! Calendar check: December 4th. Temperature check: 75 degrees. Oh baby, baby......its a keeper. I took a quick look at the weather where I grew up in Northeastern Pa and its sunny there too today with a high of 54. Now that's an awesome temperature for that neck of the woods. So I will ditto the 'sweet' comment!

This is one of those days in the year where you actually want to work outside if you don't already. But if you don't than what an excellent day to go out a lunch and take that walk you wanted to take and enjoy the sun and the late falls warmth.

Quote of the day by Mother Teresa:

“Life is an opportunity, benefit from it.
    Life is beauty, admire it.
Life is a dream, realize it.
Life is a challenge, meet it.
Life is a duty, complete it.
Life is a game, play it.
Life is a promise, fulfill it.
    Life is sorrow, overcome it.
Life is a song, sing it.
Life is a struggle, accept it.
Life is a tragedy, confront it.
Life is an adventure, dare it.
    Life is luck, make it.
Life is too precious, do not destroy it.
Life is life, fight for it.”

Happy Tuesday and Mother Teresa summed up life pretty well, didn't see. Is this how your life is....if not what's stopping it from being this way?

Wednesday December 5, 2012 and its a overcast 60.1 degrees outside heading on up to 66 degrees with a few sprinkles. It is the start of a beautiful day because what you and I do today is important. Important because we will trade a day of our lives for it and we have the chance to make someone else's day better. Better and beautiful are both subjective words and which means we have choice on what they mean to each of us.

So my choice is simple 'Feel good' and help all around me feel good. Simple, right? Not really but perseverance and some luck goes a long long way to help 'feel good'. Oh yea but I have a great advantage in 'feeling good', I believe and trust in God above. For his kingdom, power, and forgiveness is without end!

Quote of the day from John Calvin:

"Augustine does not disagree with this when he teaches that it is a faculty of the reason and the will to choose good with the assistance of grace; evil, when grace is absent."

Thursday December 6, 2012 and its 37.2 degrees outside heading on up to 50 degrees give or take a few degrees. I say that because when I checked this AM there was a difference of opinion on the high today. So, for the 50 something crowd out there.....today is your day!

As I listened to the radio this morning it said it was going to be mostly cloudy today and I could not help but look up into the dark early morning sky and see the many stars that are there scattered about the sky. They twinkled brightly and some dimly and they just looked well beautiful. I for one was glad to see them through the mostly cloudy sky....

Driving in this morning brought me back to the days of one of my first jobs out of college. I got assigned to a project in at the time was known as West Germany for a year. What an experience. What a challenge. What a Christmas.... The assignment started in September of that year so by December I was as settled as I was going to be in a foreign country. But my German colleagues were great and I learned some of the traditions of the West German people. The town I lived in had a American Army base and I was able as an American to gain access with a civilian pass. So that is where I went to the movies and every Wednesday night they had a cook your own steak meal where you could meet other Americans in the area. It was a fun time. The base pass also allowed me to attend church services on base. What a wonderful experience that was. I was never in the military but I learned that year about the deep connection the military had with God and Country. Sunday services would be filled in that little base church and the music and singing was awesome and the sermons from the pasture really hit home in a lot of ways for me as a young person living in a foreign land. I was very fortunate to be provided a life experience like that and it will be one I will never forget. My first Christmas away from home was certainly a memorable one......

Quote of the day from Terry Pratchett:

“Why do you go away? So that you can come back. So that you can see the place you came from with new eyes and extra colors. And the people there see you differently, too. Coming back to where you started is not the same as never leaving.”

Happy Thursday, Happy be where ever you call home, Happy to say Good Morning to you all.

Friday, "A day that will live in Infamy!" December 7, 2012 so its Infamy day + 71 years. Temperature today 45.7 heading up to a high of 61 degrees with light rain and some sun. So maybe a good word describing today in 2012 and in 1941 is unsettled.

Unsettled in 1941 because Americans slept in their ships and on their land base located on American soil only to be awakened by bombs falling from the morning sky. Plane after plane after plane..........when it was over 2,402 killed and 1,282 wounded. That my friends is why it shall live in Infamy!

Growing up I remember vaguely the history books explaining Pearl Harbor. Maybe a half of a page or a full page with a picture or two explaining that tragic day. It was not until my adult life that I spent more time reading about that tragic day. I knew more about the days after the attack from the movie, "Midway" but that way about the success of America than the tragedy of December 7th. That day was just part of the trials and tribulations of the Greatest Generations journey. To all of those that lived through the horror of that day we owe everything, to those that set at the bottom of Pearl Harbor for eternity we owe them our gratitude and prayers.

Quote of the day Franklin D. Roosevelt:

"As commander in chief of the Army and Navy I have directed that all measures be taken for our defense. But always will our whole nation remember the character of the onslaught against us. . . "

Happy Prayerful Friday, remember our fellow Americans this day that never rose from their slumber to greet another day.....

Monday December 10, 2012 and its a foggy, drizzly, 63.8 degrees outside heading on up to 72 degrees. Eyes slipping back to the date......oh yea 72 is A-Okay with me. The weekend has slipped away quicker than the agreement for the upcoming NHL season. Funny how adult issues slip into a child's game. Peel back the pucks and hockey sticks and what you have is greed. In its basic form.

Oh well I am sure adults will figure out the adult issues someday if not this season the next. To write any longer on the subject I risk a icing penalty so I will switch goalie gear for weekend worrier gear. Accomplishments this weekend. I installed a receptacle in the family room that was much needed. That was the easy part. As I headed under my homes crawl space I was greeted with a leaking pipe fitting. Oh joy of waterfalls! So, it was good that I actually had to get under the house or I would not have notice the leaking pipe.

It was one joint in a 'T' in the water line. So, headed to Home Depot for the electrical supplies I needed and hit the plumbing section. Fortunately the associate was very knowledgeable regarding my leaking pipe issue and recommended a great product that work our perfectly. In fact in a matter of minutes I had no leaks, no drips, no mess! Pun was intended. All leaks aside I got the receptacle in and operational and now my home is receptacles +1 and leaks 0.

Saturday night was topped off with a nice warm bonfire. We burnt through a fair amount or 2 years old logs in a short amount of time. But what a beautiful night. The star were bright and the conversation was red hot. Hot in the sense of life, religion, and the Green Bay Packers......well not the packers...that part came from the Jimmy V speech he gave. I could watch that over and over again. What a speech it was! But back to the bonfire. Once it was loaded up with some maple, oak, and pine it burned brightly into the night air. Once the yellow frame had subsided the blue flame rose up in its place which lasted for hours to keep the conversation moving along. An occasional log or two was tossed on to keep the firing burning brightly until it subsided into red hot coals........

Quote of the day by Blaise Pascal :

" There is a God shaped vacuum in the heart of every man which cannot be filled by any created thing, but only by God, the creator, made known through Jesus."

Tuesday December 11, 2012 and its 55.5 degrees outside heading on up to 61 degrees and the weather forecast is for unsettled weather. Meaning little clouds, little sun, little rain drops, and being settled! Settled was pretty much the weather up in the northeast growing up, it usually was overcast and cool to cold temperatures with occasional flurries or snow.

Our snow usually came in January and February but it was not out of the question to get a snow storm or two. When the snow storms did come during the day it was rare that we would ever be let out early. Our city school growing up had zero children transported to school via a bus. There was always a school in the city that was within walking distance. Ours was not in our neighborhood but a neighborhood away and we always walked to school. There was no car pool lines or bus drop off / pick up areas. The school was in the top of a hill and when it snowed it was slide all the way home. That was pretty darn cool. There were snowball fights and snow angels. There was tag to be played or races to be run. I feel sorry for the kids that sit in buses to and from school. They miss out on all the fun to be had going to and from school. Another casualty of today's society.

But for those of us that remember those days and lived those days we have a special memory of the way it use to be. Pretty darn neat!

Quote of the day from Thomas Jefferson:

"I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them."

Happy Tuesday and Mr. Jefferson's knew, but how did he know?

Monday December 17, 2012 and its a damp, wet 55 degrees thundering its way up to 63 degrees. Stormy is the word of the day. Stormy in the skies and stormy in our minds and stormy in our hearts. For a tragedy incomprehensible has taken place last Friday in the great state of Connecticut. By one of its own no less.

Leaving all of us wondering, why? Why did this senseless evil act happen? Why could it not been stopped? Why did God let this happen? This last question has an answer.

God provides us free choice and 10 simple to follow commandments. One near the top of the list is thou shall not kill. Simple easy to read and understand commandment. No legalese required. But somehow our modern know it all society seems to have through free choice pushed those simple to understand 10 commandments away into the closet or cellars of our society. As not important or not really truths in our modern age society. ...and nothing is farther from the truth.

We need those 10 commandments, we need to be reminded of them each and every day. From bill boards to our cell phone apps. So just as a refresher for those that might of forgot them or to those that don't know them:

And God spoke all these words, saying: “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
    1. You shall have no other gods before me.
    2. You shall not make for yourself any carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate me, but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.
    3. You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain.
    4. Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your manservant, nor your maidservant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.
    5. Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you.
    6. You shall not murder.
    7. You shall not commit adultery.
    8. You shall not steal.
    9. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
    10. You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor’s.”

Read More 10 Commandments - List of the 10 Commandments of the Bible

So trying to make sense of this senseless act of evil. A good place to start is reading, knowing, and following the 10 commandments above. With those a lot of other things in our modern life we hold as truths are really nothing more than words and false truths.

To all those affected by the tragedy in Connecticut and its all of us, you, me, and the people that seen it, lived through it, all I can say is Peace be with you this day and everyday. My heart breaks for the kids and parents.

Quote of the day: I think the above 10 commandments is all the quotes needed today. So please go up and read again and again and read to your children, grandchildren, neighbors children. We cannot afford not too!

Tuesday December 18, 2012 and its 54.2 degrees heading on up to 64 degrees. Nice! Only 7 days left till Christmas. Sweet! These were the days in school when our minds were not on studies but on gifts. Gift talk dominated to walk to school, playground talk awaiting the early morning school bell, the recess bell, and the closing school day bell, and of coarse the walk home. It was not often we got exactly what we wanted not did our friends but we still were happy with what we got.

The next most talked about subject after gifts was would we get snow on Christmas day. I can only remember a few years growing up where we actually got snow on Christmas eve or Christmas day. It would be cool and sometimes down right cold and sometimes we would get a cool rain and sleet more often that snow. It was all good. In elementary school this was the time of the year we sung Christmas songs in music class. Our little school has a large foyer in the center of the school when you walked into the front door. This is where the GIANT Christmas tree would be placed. The 6th graders got to decorate it as a right of passage I suppose for being the senior members of the school community. Each grade would create ornaments during art class so the 6th graders can place them on the tree. The tree required a large rolling ladder to decorate it. It was really cool, the tree that is....the ladder was pretty neat too! That gave the 6th grade teacher some gray hairs I think.

As I reflect back I remember and some of these are the earliest of memories when I attended the school. We would discuss who Santa would leave the presents for under our school tree. We figured he would leave them for the Principal who we always addressed as Mr. His office was on the second floor of the school and he was a really nice guy but we were all afraid of him for some reason! Than we figured he left gifts for the Janitor Mr. Eddy who usually nice to us unless we were doing something we should not have been doing. Rarely would we think Santa would leave presents for our teachers. They were the ones that corrected us, taught us, made us do things we didn't want to do, yelled at us, and helped us learn right from wrong. How could Santa possibly leave them presents???? But now that I reflect back on that time and understand what our teachers were trying to teach us I can't help but smile and know how wrong we were to think our teachers were not going to get any presents from Santa. They deserved every present they got! For those teachers that taught me, corrected me, seen something in me that I did not, I say THANK YOU.....

Wednesday December 19, 2012 and its cool 33.3 degrees outside heading on up to 63 sunny degrees. ...to quote the late great Chris Farley; "Great! Grand! Wonderful! No YELLING on the bus!" From the Billy Madison movie. Speaking of great, grand and wonderful, Christmas is a mere 6 days away. Those stockings hung yet?

In my case no. So much time so little to do......Hmmmm...scratch that, reverse it. So much to do and so little time! Ah that's better. But somehow it all gets done. Over the years I have learned that Christmas does not come in a wrapped box with the pretty bow. I learned it does not come thinking about what I didn't get. I learned it did not come in the hustle and bustle of the season..... No.

I leaned it came from my children's half opened eyes on Christmas morning. It came from what I give and not what I received or didn't received. It came from that little child in the manager over two thousand years ago as a gift from out Father above. Who came in peace and love and died in torture and persecution. CHRISTmas is a special time of the year. Time to look where we are in our lives and validate we are what we are meant to be or reset, restart, and revive the spirit of who we need to be. To family, friends, strangers, and anybody we have the pleasure of meeting.

    Now that's a Christmas season......

Quote of the day from John Henry Newman:

"To holy people the very name of JESUS is a name to feed upon, a name to transport. His name can raise the dead and transfigure and beautify the living."

Thursday December 20, 2012 and its raining away outside with a temperature of 61 degrees. Chance of thunderstorms overnight with some windy conditions. Don't know about the end of time but certainly know its approaching the end of December 20th!

Today went by quicker than the presents open up on Christmas day. Finally calming down and that's a good thing. Missed my morning post, so making a nightly post. The nightly post is a simple one, wishing all a great night and a better tomorrow!

Quote of the day by Ralph Levy:

"Now, near the Winter Solstice, it is good to light candles. All the nice meaning of bringing light to the world can be beautiful. But perhaps we are concentrating on lighting the world because we don't know to light up our own lives."

Happy Thursday and light up that life each and every day!

Friday December 21, 2012 and its sunny, cool, and still here! Its 44 degrees crawling its way up to 48 degrees. But on the other side of the world its already Saturday December 22 so they made it through December 21. Good to know!

Now its the start of the extended holiday weekend! Nice! As busy as it will be there is always time to be thankful for all that has been bestowed on you. For yet another day more than the projected end of time. Which makes the perfect time to start a new. Setting goals on how you can be better than you were yesterday. Ways to help your fellow person that made it through the projected end of times with you.

If your Christmas is white you got the Bing Crosby song going for you. If its not a white Christmas like most of us will experience we can still dream of the white Christmas.

I wish all a Merry CHRISTmas and Happiest of New Years!

Wednesday January 2, 2013 and its a new year...and its 45 wet degrees outside heading on up to 48 partly sunny degrees. Hope your Christmas and New Years were a time to remember. Mine certainly was. All our kids made it in for Christmas which made Christmas just wonderful. Our oldest Son was hedging as he was not sure he could make it with work schedules but he did!

It was a wonderful time to basically eat and eat and eat some more. Passing around some great stories about past Christmas's and caught up on their hectic work lives. Christmas eve was a great night for a bonfire. The sky was filled with stars and the air around us with filled with conversation. Other nights we watched some movies on TV and actually got out to the theater for a movie.

Now is all quiet and back to normal as they all headed back to await another year so we can get together again. I hope all had a wonderful Christmas season and truly wishing all of you a Happy and Prosperous, safe, and spiritual 2013!!!!

Quote of the day from Helen Keller:

"Your success and happiness lies in you. Resolve to keep happy, and your joy and you shall form an invincible host against difficulties."

Happy Wednesday and its amazing how clear Helen was able to 'see' things wasn't it.

Thursday January 3, 2013 and its 39 chilly degrees outside heading on up to a sunny 45 degrees. Nice
January day on tap. Have you set your resolutions for the new year? Have you broke your resolutions for the new year? Do you know its a new year?

After little thought and no anguish I have set mine.

    1. Exercise more.
    2. Weight less, sort of, kind of....
    3. Drink from the glass that is half full!
    4. Be more helpful to any and all that are in need.
    5. Thank the one above everyday for the little and big things in life.
    6. Listen with my ears and not my mouth.
    7. Learn something new everyday.
    8. Re-read 1 thru 7 again....again....again....a-g-a-i-n.

Well that's my resolution(s) and I am sticking with them!

Quote of the day from Cavett Robert:

"Character is the ability to carry out a good resolution long after the excitement of the moment has passed."

Happy Thursday and Mr. Robert seems to understand character and integrity. With that I am off and running on my new years resolution(s)......

Friday January 4, 2013 and its 34.2 degrees outside heading on up to a sunny 54 degrees. Sweet! Sweeter is the fact it was a short work week. Everyone back ready for the new year. Ready to take on a new year and all it brings.

Speaking of bringing it on. January was the dog days of winter growing up. There was no holiday's in January to get a day or two off. February brought Presidents Day and Valentine's day. But January was cold, cloudy, and snowy...... Ah there was a glimmer of cheer in January and that was snow! As a kid a snow day was like discovering an oasis in the dessert! The 6PM news weather forecast took on meaning. We sat around the TV and anticipated the weather forecaster. In those days the weather 'man' had chalk boards showing fronts and highs and lows tracking across the country.

When the weather came on it was like the stock market opening, there was silence while the forecast was read and either the silence remained when little to no snow was forecast or great cheers when we heard 6 or more inches overnight! That typically meant no school the next morning. For some reason the people responsible back than called the snow day the night before. I can't remember a day where we left for school and had early dismissal for snow. There was no phone chains or text messages to cloud anyone's decisions. One got up in the morning as usual and turned on the AM radio station and listened for cancellations. One by one they would call out the schools, we would hope and wait at the breakfast table.....not ours, not ours, not ours...come on! Come on!!! Than finally we heard it! Great cheers were heard resounding over our N.E. PA valley! Every child cheered as every mother shuttered! That was life growing up on a cold snowy January day............

Quote of the day from C.K. Chesterton:

" Man does not live by soap alone; and hygiene, or even health, is not much good unless you can take a healthy view of it, better still, feel a healthy indifference to it."

Happy Friday and Happy weekend and what a quote!

Monday January 7, 2013 and its 37.5 degrees outside heading on up to 50 degrees and sunny! Nice! Merry Christmas to our Russian Orthodox Church friends! Speaking of merry, a funny thing happened over the weekend when I went to flush our downstairs half bath toilet. It didn't work! A quick inspection under the hood sort of speaking, and I seen the problem, the handle mechanism was kaput! Drat!

So had a couple of options, one get a new handle at less than $5. To easy and no fun! Option 2. Tear out the bathroom and start over. Now I'm talking!! So option #2 it was. Actually for awhile we were thinking of redoing it anyway. After this Christmas company it was time. So out went the toilet, sink, lights, and all the bathroom accessories. Down came the wallpaper sheet by sheet. Now it was a bare once filled bathroom!

After some wall prep and holes and dent fills it was time to paint. Started at the ceiling and finished with the wood baseboard. Two coats on everything! Different colors for each, ceiling white on the ceiling, some color I cannot pronounce for the walls, and heavy cream for the molding. That took care of Saturday plus the time to go out and get the paint, accessories, and new lights and fixtures! Sunday was spent putting the bathroom back together again.... It is now back together, refreshed, and ready for use! I on the other hand am still together, thank goodness, tired, and ready for a Monday! At least I didn't have to wallpaper. Wallpapering is not my favorite job that is for sure!

Regrets: No time this weekend for a bonfire! Bummer! But I do have a whole lot of cardboard to burn now the next time I have one. So I got that going for me!

Quote of the day from Joe Quantana:

"The most critical decision homeowners will make when embarking on a remodeling project is choosing the right professional for the job."

Happy Monday and sometimes the absolute best candidate for the remodeling job is YOU! You just may not know it yet!

Tuesday January 8, 2013 and its 34.7 outside heading on up to a sunny 54 degrees. Its Notre Dame nice! Nice to be in the championship but not quite nice enough to win. Now if it was going to be say 75 degrees today it would be Alabama nice! To use a sports metaphor, if I may.

Last nights game was the first complete college game I watched all year. I seen a lot of bits and pieces of game throughout the season. But after hearing all the hype of the BCS companionship game I too believed it would have been a good game to watch. I kind of felt the let down begin when they did not have jets fly over after the National Anthem. Kind of like those! No Jets....

The BCS seemed to match up a college team against a High School team. How could the BCS computer be so wrong? I don't know which team would of been a better match up for Alabama but I do know it was not Notre Dame. But the cool thing is both teams along with all the others will start over in the spring football programs and try it again!

The game reminded me of a good ole beating my friends and I took on the baseball field by my out of town cousins and some of their friends. We decided to challenge my cousins team in a sandlot baseball game. My cousins lived in the country and we lived in the city it was going to be a slam dunk! Well it was and we were the ones slammed. Those boys sure count smack a baseball! We got a couple of runs and they got a lot of runs! An early lesson in humility, that is for sure.

Quote of the day by Rick Warren:

"Humility is not thinking less of yourself, its thinking of yourself less."

Happy Tuesday and word of the day is simply and clearly humility.
