Just returned from a three week visit exploring more of Kenya. Spent a week at the Diani Beech area south of Mombasa, a three day Safari at the Massi Mara, four days in Nakuru and a few days in Nairobi. Can't get enough of it. Will be retiring half the year somewhere (TBD) in Kenya with the other half in the US.

From there I'll be able to explore more of Africa.

Rwanda - Must see the cleanest city in Africa. Also, a big fan of the tropical highland climate.
Kenya - Safari/Wildlife
Tanzania - The wildlife. Zanzibar for a beach day.
South African - Because it's the most discussed Sub-Saharan country in the U.S.
Egypt - The Pyramids and other ancient Egyptian culture sites.

Guinea-Conakry. Still almost impossible to enter, ex-pat pop near zero.

Chad. Also really tough borders, bribes reduired. Urban pop very low.

South Sudan. Even if land borders are open, the roads probably aren't.

Congo-Brazzaville. The other Congo, travel even harder than Dem. Rep,

Algeria. Wonderful, hospitable 50 years ago, I wonder if it still is.

We are excited to be going to South Africa and Lesotho in May, Morocco in October. We had to cancel a trip to Kenya in 2020 when our borders closed, so that still is on my wish list. The fifth is Botswana.

Take your skis to Lesotho, the ski lodges will be open May. A ski vacation to Africa would be a hoot.

I see Namibia is getting popular. Got to admit those images of sand dunes going the water edge are awesome. Hopefully they can use the new exposure to develop a vibrant tourism industry.

Morocco

Kenya

Senegal

Tanzania

Nigeria

All various reasons ranging from culture, food, people, education and genuine curiosity (for their robust sense of colors, patterns, wild life, beautiful music and such a sense of joy and openness.)

Honorable mention (it’s not a country): Reunion. I have friends from there so I’m fascinated by its culture and scenery.
