Bring your bulletproof vest I would never attend the footwash somebody tried to drag me to that crap one year luckily my car had a problem on the way their so i had to turn around.

Police aren't allowed in the Festival itself from what I understand. Basically it's an "anything goes" type of atmosphere. Imagine how many arrests would occur if the security folks from the Crawfish Festival were patrolling the Footwash! Considering the following the festival attracts, I imagine a riot would ensue if the police ever tried to shut it down.

OK, for some reason it seems as though this thread has turned into a lecture and bashing arena.
I originally posted in attempts to gain info. From my understanding yes, this is mainly an African American event. However, although trashy things occur at a event does not mean the attendee is a trashy person. In Cleveland, Oh we have had numerous events that I must sadly say bad things have occurred. But for COLLEGE educated people like me, who just go for the experience and to have fun hoping terrible things don't occur. Truthfully, trashy, demeaning, and concern for safety can occur at any event (regardless of ethnic background or area) that you can't prevent and just say "Hey,that's not my cup of tea".
I appreciate the information, and although I am first time user, I think it's unnecessary to make this into a rural/suburban issue or cultural issue when the initial question was where and when and what other events are in Alabama. Those who gave insightful info i will p/m.Everyone is definitely, entitled to there opinion which makes America beautiful. Thanks!!

I went to the Footwash last year,we stayed in Selma and had a wonderful time. The people had that southern hospitality. It was crowded but there was not a problem and I plan on attending this year.

Footwash
hi,
I found several articles on it. I have never heard of it. There might be someone who knows more but from what I read it can be a pretty wild event sometime in the middle of Sept.
I have heard alot about the Alabama Footwash and would like to go.My friends and I are palnning a trip there from Cleveland, Oh.
I was wondering if anyone can please give me insight of exactly the location and the dates.
Thanks so much!!!

My hometown is Greensboro, AL. The Footwash is a week long event. People usually start going down in full force on Tuesday. It is usually the third week in Sept. I would say "always", but that could change. The weekend is the best time to get the full effect, Sept. 19-21, 2008. Uniontown is printed on the t-shirts, but it is actually in Faunsdale. (You know how small towns can be, things have a tendency to overlap. lol) Demopolis & Selma are good cities to get a hotel if you plan to stay overnight, but people also camp out down there. Tuscaloosa would also be a good option. There are more hotels, restaurants, clubs, etc. But, believe me, you won't want to go to a club after being @ the Footwash. I hope this helps. CC

Hi All. For those of you still interested in going to the Footwash, there are a few sites to go to for more information. One is www.kemethouse.com/events (broken link) & the other is Uniontown, AL's site. Just google Uniontown Alabama & get to it that way. I hope this helps. There has been some mix up as to the actual dates. If you seen the 26th-28th, it will actually be the full week prior leading into the weekend. Like I said before, people usually start going down that Tuesday & that's mostly when the vendors start setting up also.

Oh, FAUNSDALE. What is it about that place? It's just a tiny place off the road, but the weirdest things go on there.
