Any thread about politics or religion seems to grow quickly...
It's interesting how many ways people have of dividing ourselves up between "us" and "them." I recall going to a particular denomination with a friend back when I was in high school- apparently, only that specific church was the right one, and everyone else was going to hell. It's always "them" that are the evildoers, whether they're green, brown, liberal, libertarian, or whatever else you've got.

That's just a long way of saying that I won't get into the actual religious discussion, but I will suggest looking around town, or even posting fliers in a post office or library or something. The few posters here from Fairbanks probably won't be much of a help in terms of what you're looking for. Good luck and godspeed.

Here is a University of Alaska-Fairbanks group-it doesn't look like you have to be a student to join.

This thread has been an interesting read and humorous. I'll have to say thumbs up to ya Go_North for being so open. Myself, I'd have to say I'm an agnostic.
Hope you find a group you enjoy there in Fairbanks.

This thread is hilarious, which is why it will probably be closed...

You had me going there for a minute MET, until I clicked that link... I think I ruptured my spleen reading that page.

I would prefer to start something online first - and I'd be happy to start a community with people outside of my area as well. We could do something online.
I am just really passionately interested in the topic and I would like to get to know some others like me.

Of course, I welcome (calm, reasonable) discussion/debate with theists, too. :3
I am an atheist, but not in the Fairbanks area. I am also not an anti-theist. I think people should be allowed to believe, or not believe, anything they want. I have no animosity toward any religion.

Why? Shouldn't you be looking for more people who aren't Atheists so you can preach about how wrong they are?

Religions are supposed to do that in order to save nonbelievers and get more people into heaven/paradise/etc.
If one doesn't believe in any afterlife, what is the purpose of doing such a thing?

I am not an ivory carver! DOH! After posting 64 pages on my sons work why do you still fail to understand I am not allowed to work with white ivory?
I'm a photographer - not an ivory carver - Oh the wisdom in this thread is so laughable!

I'm still waiting for any explanation of how NOTHING created everything! (The world's greatest mystery)

The universe is simply too magnificent and precise of a design to have just happened.
