Sweet snowfalls. I've only seen snow like that once, I was in Anchorage for a weekend and it dumped, couldn't even find the rental car in the morning.

Well, it's pouring rain right now, but temps are supposed to dip down again before sunrise, meaning the entire town of Sandpoint is likely going to grind to a very icy halt. School is already cancelled, but I'm sure most of the government offices are going to end up closed as well. Spokane (nearest big city) didn't have half the snow we got, but they did everything short of declare a state of emergency- called in the cavalry (snowplows from all over the Northwest) and everything. Unfortunately, there wasn't much cavalry left to spare, this storm hit the entire region pretty hard. The entire western seaboard is on a flash flood watch, the coastal regions have extreme surf warnings out, as well as high wind advisories (100 mph was what I was hearing before I left- well over hurricane gale force, which I believe is 60mph) for the Oregon and Southern Washington coasts.
It's gonna be a rough night down here, folks... ![]() |

Yeah, it's going to be nasty business, I'm not looking forward to it!
This is The Weather Channel's "Severe Weather Alert Map" for the Northwest US region. Unfortunately, it can only display one alert per county- Lincoln County, OR (where I was staying) had five out when I left. ![]() ![]() |
