We are hoping to move to Cordova area or valdez. Husband is looking for job driving truck but has no cdl. Also in need of rent house. Does anyone have any advice or helpful info? thanks

You probably are not going to find a driving job in Valdez without a CDL. Get the CDL first. You'll need to find a place that will give you the training.

I thought the OP moved up to AK years ago to build a cabin and live off the land (and ended up in a weekly motel with no car and a bunch of kids).

we did move to Ak back in 2009. We lived in anchorage at first then moved to sleetmute and i worked as librarian at Jack Egnaty school. things were ok,other than than the village being full of drunks. After layoff of job we moved to chuathbaluk, and i worked as sub. we never made it off grid. We had to move back due to my motherinlaw passing away in tx and we needed to come help fatherinlaw. We were hoping to get our pfd for the yrs we were there. We came back to tx in 2011. we didnt get pfd however due to me sending paperwork from tx and not filing it out correctly. We have been trying to save ever since to go back, now we are ready to jump but husband wants to ensure an income there first , then move, save up money then "retire" to offgrid.

Probably not much, since goods are typically barged or flown in.
And, Cordova enjoys jet service while Valdez does not.

That's why I was wondering. While it's on the road network, it's a 5 hour drive to that one place.
