You need to bring a gold quality gold pan and some XtraTuff boots. I guess a good parka and a set of raingear would also be in order.

Yes, an open mind is one thing you need when moving to Alaska. The sticker prices on things you rely on at home will shock you when you get here. You will find the Inupiat people you will be working with very friendly. Sure, there are some bad people up there, but that is a small percentage. Don't try and change people for you, you need to change for yourself to fit in. No matter where you go if you try and change things the way they are ran, you will not make any friends. Open mind...
