For the benefit of our readers, could you please define "legitimate city" so some of them, including me, might have a clue what you are talking about?

cit·y

/ˈsɪti/ [sit-ee]
–noun,plura lcit·ies.

1. a large or important town.

2. (in the U.S.) an incorporated municipality, usually governed by a mayor and a board of aldermen or councilmen.

Really, Trader-G? I think you're trolling, but I'll add that I've lived in Boston, DC, Houston, Portland, Madison, and Omaha - ABQ doesn't feel any less of a "legitimate" city. It is a different city - and downtown does have a nightlife, even if it doesn't fit your image of what a nightlife should be. While it doesn't have the options of a much larger city, it does have a spot for pretty much everyone. You don't mind telling me, what places you've gone to in downtown ABQ?

How many times have we talked about how crappy the downtown area is?

About a million times since 2008. Ha.

Why not change the conversation to the good things that are happening and should happen?

Well...... should happen:

More stores, more nightlife, and.... oh yea, highrises?
Our downtown is a mess.

And what good things... this city is so stupid they are allowing 3 story lofts, when we should be building 10 story lofts.

You have to have the 3 story lofts before the 10 floor ones. Remember, the 9 floor building that was supposed to open last year still is not finished. They'll build up and more when the market demands it. And the 3 floor lofts are much better than what was there before. It takes baby steps.. There was a time when even Manhattan was low-rise.

Baby Steps? Ummmm do you realize how big the downtown area is...? pretty small there, mister. If the demand is not there do NOT build period!
