In less than one month, precisely on June 15th, the FIFA Confederations Cup 2013 will start here in Brazil.
For those who don't know:
Quote:
The FIFA Confederations Cup is an association football tournament for national teams, currently held every four years by FIFA. It is contested by the holders of each of the six FIFA confederation championships (UEFA, CONMEBOL, CONCACAF, CAF, AFC, OFC), along with the FIFA World Cup holder and the host nation, to bring the number of teams up to eight.
Since 2005, the tournament has been held in the nation that will host the FIFA World Cup in the following year, acting as a rehearsal for the larger tournament.
Here in Fortaleza there will be three matches: Brazil vs Mexico, Spain vs Nigeria, and one of the semifinals
We're working hard and running against time to provide the best we can to the teams and the fans. Not all of the infrastructure for the World Cup in 2014 will be ready for this Confederations Cup in 2013. But our stadium (Castelao) is ready (it was the first of the 2014 World Cup venues to be completed, in December 2012) and we're trying to finish part of the road infrastructure in time for the Confeds Cup...
What does being ready mean anyways? Few tourists are coming in to watch these games and the crowds for most matches will not be that large. All readiness means is the stadiums chosen to be used for this tournament have opened their doors. Security, crowd control and transportation are nothing like the real thing will be.
