Well, Russia seems to be about ready to annex eastern Ukraine as well ....... does that mean we get Cuba AND Jamaica?
Im torn on this, on one hand I don't think Putin is that dumb to push the envelope any further ... on the other hand he knows we won't do anything other than make harshly worded speeches and that we can't do any harsh sanctions that would impact Russia because Europe relies heavily on trade with Russia.

Really? Putin is so much smarter that zero. What have the sanctions done - NOTHING. The Russians moved all their money out of western banks weeks before this occurred.

There wasn't anything that could have been done, not even by Willard had he become president. It's Russia's turf. They can't be frightened by saber-rattling, since they have so many nukes. And economically ...... Europe heats its homes with Russian gas.

The US has all but annexed Guantanamo. The old "lease" treaty was signed at gunpoint and Cubans would like to see Guantanamo closed and given back to them.

They can survive without Russian gas, a lot of their homes get their heat from the sun.

No, unfortunately that is not the case, yet. Maybe 20 years from now, but currently solar energy is little used in Europe, even in Germany. Especially during the winter half of the year Europe is utterly dependent on gas, oil and coal, the latter of which has a bad reputation because of the emissions associated with it.
In Germany they are shutting down their remaining nuclear power plants, so their dependence on gas is likely to increase.
The French are probably the most independent big country in Europe as they obtain 3/4 or so of their energy from nuclear power plants.
There is an article today which says that unlike what the media report on (calls for sanctions and less dependence, etc.) reality goes the other way. Russia and Europe are becoming interconnected more and more closely: http://www.spiegel.de/wirtschaft/unt...-a-962662.html
(In German, but maybe a Google translation is enough.)
