BHC residents can enjoy some very cheap entertainment in Laughlin, all that stuff in LHC is more.

Nogales probably has one of the highest percentage of Demos in the State, and they just had their first homicide in three years (boyfriend of the deceased). The medical services have expanded a lot over the years, seriously injured are flown to UMC. People do fine in Nogales without A/C, that ain't going to happen in BHC. Patagonia is adjacent, but quite pricey with few amenities.
Yeah, I have ruled out Mohave county. Very interesting about Nogales, but that is right on the Mexican border, right? That is too close for comfort for me to Mexico given the violence (and I am shocked there hasn't been any except for the one homicide you mention - yet) but thanks for the tip. I would imagine burglary would be more of a problem there.

I cannot go out of town this weekend as my dog got sick and have to keep an eye on her, but maybe Monday (since it's Presidents Day and I am thinking less traffic), I'll drive down to Tucson for the day and get a feel for it. I know it always votes democratic, so that is a plus. I just hope Gabby Giffords recovers well so she can come back and be a voice for that area.

Actually, suprisingly (to me anyway), Nogales seems to be below the national average in regards to crime overall (not just murders). Overall crime index for 2009 (last year tabulated so far) is 273.6 while the US average is 319.2

I suggested Tucson to you a while back and I still suggest it. Maybe you can find an historic house near the 4th Ave district....

Might have something to do with there being law enforcement everywhere...ICE, BP, NPD. I follow RE prices down there, and they haven't taken nearly the hit Phoenix did. My Realtor down there has told me that Mexicans are buying properties in AZ to escape the violence in Sonora.
This was my back yard of my 47,000 USD home in Rio Rico, about 8 miles from Downtown Nogales.

Best city to move to that is not Phoenix area without snow and liberal leaning?-backyard.jpg

I am curious, what would a politically liberal town have to offer compared to a right wing town? Is it mainly like minded people you seek?

Bullhead City (actually the Avi Casino) hosted the National Gay Rodeo Finals last October. I don't think you can get much more liberal than that... LOL

And no, sorry, I missed it.

Well, not ruling it out. It does seem my options are being limited. I'd like the idea of an historic house, as I once lived in one that was 65 years old. I guess first step is to hook up with a realtor and make contact and have him or her start sending me listings. Then, when I have a better idea of what I could get (would love an Adobe house too), I can go there and look at some houses. Only problem is this house has to sell too and no one is going to buy it when it looks like a bomb went off next door.

Thanks, the population is hugely Hispanic there, not that I mind it as long as there is one decent Chinese restaurant. Still, I really am worried that in the coming years more violence might just come over the border.

as a victim of violence in mexico, i understand your concerns.

i agree that tucson may be mostly liberal slums and conservative upscale.... ok, i exagerate some

i think bhc or lhc would be fine for you. i go to the community college in bhc and lived there for about a year and had no problem there.

i live in kingman and would welcome another liberal. kingman is more conservative but most people are "live and let live".

i grew up in a very liberal family and area. i am more middle of the road but am often up for a good discussion.

is your insurance something that others can sign up for? i let my cobra expire and am now kicking myself and looking for new ins.

if you are looking for people that are ok with lifestyle choices.... there are people that will welcome you
