Hi We are moving to AZ from Seattle. (Goodbye rain!) anyway we have 3 indoor/outdoor cats. I have heard horror stories about them getting killed if we let them outside or at night. Is this true? Am I going to be stuck having 3 indoor cats? Thanks !

Coyotes just love to eat cats and we have our share of them in AZ. They will also take smaller dogs if left unattended.
We lost a younger Pug puppy years ago.
We do have a cat, and he is indoor only.
Your cats may have a little trouble adjusting, but so will you too the heat!
Lived in WA in the Tacoma area in the 60s and 70s with the Army and Gig Harbor and Whidbey Island in the 90s staying employed so I know what you are in for.

I don't think it's ever wise or safe to let cats outside unless you have a screened in porch. You could enclose a portion of your patio to make it safer for them - a "catio" of sorts.

I hear you.
My wife is a native AZ girl. She could not stand it up there but that is where her job took her.
But the older we get the less tolerate we are of heat so we moved up in elevation to get away from it and get 4 seasons back.
When we first moved back to the state is was June and we thought we were going to pass out!
And welcome to AZ! It's about as 180° from western WA as you can get.

This is my long haired monster.

He goes outside year round day or night. When he can't bully us into opening a door for him he has his own door and free access.

That said, we live in central Phx and haven't seen coyotes in the neighborhood in the 16 yrs we've been here. If you live closer to the edge of the metro area or your neighbors tell you there is a coyote problem, then take precautions.

If I ever had cats again, I would build them an outdoor enclosure. Here are some cool ideas:

Outdoor Cat Enclosures: How To Go From Patio To Catio

There is an outdoor tabby cat in my neighborhood and he is the sorriest specimen I've ever seen - all ripped up. Very sad.

I don't think this is an opinion shared by most responsible pet owners.
