My mother is visiting from Wisconsin for a long weekend. She's not a big fan of the heat in the valley, so I thought we would take a drive up past Roosevelt Lake and on up to Payson on Sunday and enjoy some cooler temps. We'll likely be there for lunch. It's been a long time since I've been through Payson and some of the reviews on Yelp haven't been that good for the majority of restaurants.

Any recommendations? We're open to just about any fare.

Macky's is ok...it's close to the sawmill theatre. If you are down for some mexican..I like Aliberto's. It's in the safeway shopping center close to Cardo's pizza which is actually pretty good too. I know that they just opened a Thai place called Ayothaya but i've never eaten there. My father in law loves it but I'm a little unsure of his taste in Thai food.

There are plenty of choices in Payson, for sure. If you like the chain restaurants, they are there but they have some really good Mom 'n Pop type places too. My number one recommendation for good home cooked food at reasonable prices is the Beeline Cafe. Started out as a drive up ice cream place but it's been a staple for the people of Payson for many many years. There are also some decent non-chain nice places other than the Mom 'n Pop places too. Google is your friend!

I like Alphonso's better than Albertos for fast Mexican (Alphonso's is across from DQ). DON'T go to the Mexican restaurant across from Chili's--it was the worse I've ever had and I'm from Wisconsin! I, too, have heard great things about the Beeline Restaurant, but have never been there. I really liked the Thai place when they first opened, but my dishes have tasted a little off the last couple times I've been there.

Gerardo's is a decent Italian place just past Walmart.

I usually eat quick food while in Payson, and my top places are Alphonso's and Subway. If I have some more time, I go to Mackey's Grill, The Pizza Factory, or the Thai place. And of course, I almost always make a stop at Scoops Ice Cream & Espresso (They are sandwiched between Mackey's and the theater).

Buffalo Bar and Grill on the south end of town just down the hill from the casino has great burgers and chili.

Thanks for the recommendations, everyone. We ended up at Macky's on Sunday. The lunch was decent. I've had better melts, but the chili was pretty and the pie was excellent.

Ha, ha, pretty chili, first I ever heard it called that. It's supposed to be yummy.

Will be in Payson for the first time in two weeks. Tiny's Family Restaurant at Zurich and 260 is an Off Track Betting Site, and as a horseracing fan may drop in and bet a few ponies. The Yelp reviews of the place should I dine there are jusr so so, but would like to get an opinion from a local or frequent Payson visitor. Ok food, or should I try elsewhere?
