Anyone have an opinion on this city? Hows the crime rate etc?

Good, small town. Lots of water around it. Pretty area. Crime rate is not as bad as it's neighbor Fort Smith. In fact I think I only hear something bad in Van Buren only once in awhile. I am considering moving there. People are NICE. Cost of living is good. Not much else I can say.

I am not sure if you have been there or not. But my, that is one beautiful historic town, and yes, the Arkansas River runs by it. From what I saw of Ft. Smith, it is a modern sprawl of good shopping. I didn't see much of it, but it looks like you can find almost anything there.

Historic downtown of Van Buren has a lot of antique stores, a few gifts shops, one great used book store, candle shop, soap shop, and a train that takes you into the woods. Nearby is a beautiful small town of Ozark and a beautiful drive along highway 23, I believe. It reminded me of the Smokey Mt. which I loved.

I don't know if they have other shopping areas in Van Buren because I didn't see everything. But the highways all around Van Buren and Ft. Smith are really green, lush to be exact.

I used to live in Vb not a bad place to live. But I move to New Mexico and love it here. The crime rate is good I never had any problems. I lived across the Walmart Supercenter, I good part of town. To see the crime-rate look here:

Where I live in New Mexico the crime-rate is real good better than VB.............

It's in a dry county but a couple of restaurants have gotten permits to serve liquor by the drink recently. The first ones in about 50 years I think.
There is an fascinating mural down by the boat docks near the Midland bridge.

Its very pretty, hills, water, friendly people.. I am more of a city guy so i dont know if id like to live there but if you like tranquility and Fort Smith is just across the river then yes Van Buren is great!

I like Van Buren. Not too big, with a pretty, well-kept, historic downtown. Lots of older neighborhoods with nice older homes, beautiful sugar maples that are absolutely stunning in the fall. Large mall and that kind of shopping right next door in Ft. Smith. Don't know for sure about crime, but assume it's pretty low, as it is all around that area. Don't know how schools are, either. But it's in a beautiful area of the state....if you're into the outdoors, you'll love it, outdoor stuff to do all around it.
