The world believed... but the world was wrong, wasn't it? And you are now taking this wrong belief as evidence that HK is more stable than the rest of China? What kind of logic is that? The fact is the opposite, since the 1990s, China surged and HK is losing its glamour faster you would think in the 80s. Why the hell in China gives a flying a$$ about HK nowadays?


Of course HK is more advanced before the new millennium. It is more advanced today as well, but it is due to the special status it was given, and the fact that it is just a moderate sized city of 8m. If the same special treatment was given to any other city, that city would be as rich as HK too, with or without the UK rules. It is really not that hard to make a city of 8m rich when it gets the good policy and resources.
