Pretty embarrassing for the United States. I don't think it's going to improve with the pervasive society the Untied States is becoming. I know for sure I'm pushing my children, but I'll be nicer than what my father was to me. My father broke me. I will actually push and encourage my kids.

now that's someone who knows better about China.

Students in Beijing and Shanghai are average at best, because the entire education system is unfairly tiled toward them, so they don't really study as hard as those in other provinces, particularly Jiangsu, Hubei, Zhejiang, Shangdong etc.

Yeah, they do that, too... sometimes I have to hush them, but it's quite cute. Even if the kids don't really get along, they try to help eachother out. It's drastically different from what I saw in the US.

cram schools for local or western exams and tests including SATs, APs, IBs, TOEFL, IELTS & A-levels are in plenty especially for the richer kids in Asia. Parents who send kids to cram schools are considered good parents in Asia. Parents who neglect their kids' test score performance or just give them money to play are bad parents in Asia.

Those cram schools are very popular in Taiwan and South Korea, I heard. Not so much in mainland China.

One reason is that the schools in China keep students busy enough. Many high schools require students to show up in the evening and study until 10pm or something.

Well I was just wondering, you would think a country that does so well in math and science tests would have something to show for that is important in the field. Otherwise what are these tests really measuring?

You do realize Singapore has 7M people, smaller than New York City alone?
