So you think he did?
And Merkel said "no" to that?

I honestly think he did not, and all of it is just a rumor.

Ah OK, thanks, I am just making guesses how this whole thing is going to affect the next turn of events.

It seems from info now that Erdogan was in the air the entire time after leaving Marmaris. I do not know if it was just his scheduled time to leave, or he knew a coup was underway and left ASAP. There was an attack on where he was staying and an attempt to either kill him or detain him.

I was guessing at first he went to a safe airbase because being in the air would be dangerous, but it seems he was in the air the whole time. He was being escorted by two F-16s. Over the Marmara Sea, two coup F-16s did lock onto him and the escorts, but did not fire and broke away from engagement.

Now arrests are going on everywhere, at many bases. I do not blame Erdogan at all for arresting those involved, however, I know he will use this to go after anyone, and it will be up to them to prove their innocence, and the evidence will be real flimsy like "someone said you did blah blah" or "you once ate lunch with so and so."
