In simple words, a man made document certainly not "inspired" by some deity or creator. I know human authors who put together better and more interesting stuff than the overly long and interminally boring Bible.
A superb post that should be posted in full in the Christian forum.
Bravo Mircea.
I agree. I'd only say, leaping astride my hobby horse, that I'd go a bit further than merely pointing out that Jesus in John does the Temple cleansing before he even begins his ministry, because even if this discrepancy is accepted rather than ignored or explained away, it can be put down to 'human error' while the Bible is claimed as nevertheless substantially correct and therefore believable as Holy Writ.
But looking at the misplaced Temple cleansing we can see that this was glossed by John at 4 4.5 ('The Galileans welcomed him, seeing all that he had done in Jerusalem at the feast' which must refer to the temple cleansing) and this is evidence that John deliberately shifted the episode and re-wrote the Bible in contradiction (as Mircea says) to the Synoptics in order to back up his re- writing.
Just pointing up a contradiction isn't enough; we won't really ever understand why the Bible is not trustworthy until we understand how the Evangelists adapted the story and why.
Obviously you don't believe as Christians do, that the Bible is the word of God...so what do you think it is? Do you believe it was written over a long period of time (as Christians do) by many different men? Do you even believe that it was written 2000 years ago or perhaps more recently? Does it have as much credence as other works written around the same time? Why was it written? I know, lots of questions and I appreciate anyone who is willing to take the time to share what your thoughts are about the Bible.
as far as my self goes, I believe the bible is what it is said to be, except for the "god" part. It is not factual.
An early version of government, similar to the Constitution. A method to control. i.e., "Big Brother is watching."
positively Brilliant!!!!
