Here is a picture of me at Walden Pond, which is about as close as I can get to being in church.

I am standing just below the place where Thoreau has his cabin.

A grandé place to enjoy a nature's reverie, yes? To get away from God and clear your mind.

"Get away from God?"

How very odd.

And kinda sad.

Personally, I always feel closer to God when I'm surrounded by nature.

A sad and odd thought yes. But even sadder is that us theists are often the reason an atheist would want to get away from God. We all too often stress god as something we need to pound into people with a sledge hammer and forget that all a hammer, large or small, can do is give a severe headache.

We can be real pests and I can not fault an atheist for wanting to get away from us at times. An evangelical theist is a very strong incentive for a person to become an Atheist. We our selves have given atheists reason to want to get away from God.

Regardless of your beliefs, being out in nature is a fantastic place to reflect.

No religious trappings, no person to tell you what's "proper", just you and the awesome power of Mother Nature.

It has the ability to make you feel small and insignificant at times but also part of the grand design. Tends to put a person in their place.

Default Nothing Sad about it! Rather joyous, in fact!

Not I. The limitations that a Godly perspective on nature mandates does little to enhance my personal enjoyment of nature per se, which, btw, happened all by itself according to my (i) opinion, (ii) career studies & investigations, (iii) in-depth research and (iv) continued life-long observations.

Some things just jump out at'cha, after all!

So, yup; when I'm alone out there, with no-one telling me it's a sin to think "like so", or that I'd better respect the concept of directed Intelligent Design, I gets tah feelin' all happy and peaceful inside!

And then I can then move on to taking in all that grand evolution!

Hi Rifle, I'm glad you liked the picture. I didn't know how to post a larger version, but if you click on it, a larger version pops up.

Walden Pond is absolutely beautiful, but it is not like a museum. At one end is a beach which probably gets pretty crowed at times, so it is obvious people really enjoy the place. The path around the lake is pristine and the water is perfectly clear.

I guess even Atheists need a church, don't we?

We know the feeling. we just reason that its awe at nature and the 'god' idea is not needed.

And Woody -Abdullah again had some good thoughts.

I could sit with a theist looking at that view.

god -believer: 'Beautiful'.

Godless bastard : 'Magnificent.'

god - believer. 'God'.

godless bastard: 'Nature.'

god - believer: 'Same thing.'

godless bastard: 'Yep'.

So long as the Holy Books don't come into it, nothing to ripple the calm.
