OMG we agree on something! well at least on the bolded phrase.

At first I was siding with the buckhead coalition but then. From the OP's AJC link

"I don't know what their official legal standing would be," said David Stellwagen, founder of Buckhead Coffee in Lawrenceville. "They're not an incorporated city. It's like saying Hollywood Video can't sell videos anywhere other than Hollywood, or that there can't be a Boston Market anywhere but Boston. I think they're going to have a hard time."

And

“Some business owners also pointed out there is a Georgia town called Buckhead, and officials there haven't called to complain and demand alterations. Those same officials were not readily available for comment Wednesday.”

From a marketing standpoint I can see why they would want this. But why would using the name in businesses outside the area hinder the "Buckhead brand"?
That seems silly to me. If Simon wanted to put shopping downtown and call it Lenox II, what's wrong with that? Why couldn't you have Alpharetta Coffee in midtown or Peachtree City?

Besides, Buckhead isn't particularly tony or snooty these days. Granted there are some major businesses in the office buildings, but as far as the people who live there it's no different from the rest of the city. And certainly the people who party, dine and shop there come from all over town.

What about the city of Buckhead?
Can the neighborhood sue the city and vice-versa?

Buckhead, GA 30625

To be quite frank, Buckhead is losing its class-stratified luster. When Milton county comes to be that will be the start of the end of what we have known as Buckhead. It will still be nice, but not able to withstand the sinking titanic that is downtown Atlanta.

LOL, no it isn't.

Never going to happen. Even Sam Massell is against that dumb idea:
“Mayor Of Buckhead” Not Keen On Milton
Quote:
But with Massell favoring the status quo for Fulton, he now finds himself squarely aligned with those at both City Hall as well as those in the Fulton County Government complex.

Time will allow a proper measure of the seismic nature of this shift, but as of now, Buckhead’s power center is aligned with Fulton, and not the folks North of the Chattahoochee.

I'm hearing that a lot of the super wealthy in the U.S. are moving to Greene County, Ga. Check this link out by Forbes.

Wow! That is absurd. Why try to do something like this? It only divides the city. We are Atlanta. Since when is Buckhead a city?? I mean, it is, but not here! Not sure why this is necessary.

You know this nonsense won't happen. It's just somebody's misguided marketing idea. The Buckhead Coalition should be delighted that their name is considered a PR plus.

I hope you are right. I don't get the "Buckhead is best mentality". When my friends say "where did you move" and I tell them, they say "but Buckhead is the place to be". They have no clue.

Well, there's no doubt that Buckhead is one of the most successful and diverse parts of the city but it's silly to try to "copyright" a generic term like that. If the folks at Perimeter wanted to start calling Ashford Dunwoody the Midtown Mile why shouldn't they?
