My wife and I are relocating to Atlanta by the end of 2010! So we are busy we are coming from the suburbs of Cleveland and we need to get some information on private schools in Atlanta. We narrowed down where we want to live, either the Peachtree Heights West/Habersham Areas or possibly Country Club of the South, but we are thinking more along the lines of Peachtree Heights West/Habersham being the better idea because it is ITP. Now we need to know where should the children go to school right now our daughter is enrolled in a private school for this school year in Cleveland. We have a Five year old daughter, Three year old son, and Ten month old son. The private school said the could help get our daughter into a private school for the second semester. If it does not work out we could homeschool for the second semester of kindergarten, but we really do not want to do that. We were looking at Woodward Academy(our favorite), The Westminster Schools(2nd), then The Lovett School and Pace Academy(both are 3rd). We would prefer that the school has racial diversity being that our children are biracial, I am White and my wife is Black. We found more diversity at Woodward than the others. We also like that if we go with Country Club of the South we could send them to Woodward, but we are thinking we will end up in Peachtree Heights West/Hambersham.
Thanks for all the help!

You'd have a great experience at any of those schools but I'd also lean toward Woodward. Super neighborhood as well. And welcome to Atlanta!!

All the schools that you mention are very strong. If you wind up in Peachtree Heights, I would also suggest that you look at The Children's School in Midtown, on Tenth Street overlooking Piedmont Park. It starts at age 3 and goes through 6th grade. My children (soon to be fifth and seventh graders) both started there in kindergarten and we have been very, very happy. It is very diverse and welcoming. It has strong junior high placement into Woodward, Westminster and other top-rated junior high programs. It would be a much shorter commute for you, and is a terrific community. Good luck with whatever you decide, and welcome to Atlanta!

Are you discussing Woodward North (Duluth campus) or Woodward's College Park campus? It may be that the north campus has a bit less diversity, but you would have to do a little digging to figure that out. January admissions is not always a given; there will have to be an available slot and that is not very likely in those particular schools (things do happen, but I wouldn't be counting on that availability). You should probably have Plan B ready in case no slots are available.

Woodward North's campus only goes through 6th grade. After 6th grade your child would need to ride the bus back and forth to the College Park campus. It's a 45 minute ride each way. If you opt for Country Club of the South, the nearby public schools are excellent. I have lived near CCS, but for the past 8 years I have lived ITP. I much prefer the ITP lifestyle and there is a much better "community" feel in the Buckhead/Vinings area. Peachtree Heights/Habersham is considered Buckhead. Don't limit yourself to only Ptree Heights/Habersham. You will pay extremely high property taxes inside city of Atlanta. You can't go wrong with any of the private schools you mention. Also, look at Trinity School. It's considered the best elementary (3yr-6th grade) independent school as it's sole focus in on the primary years. Graduates then go on to the other schools you mention. The school is very welcoming of diversity. Good luck with your search and welcome to Atlanta!
