We have been looking up homes in Woodstock and we can't believe how big and cheap the homes are there. Is there something wrong with the area? Is it nice over there? Shopping, great schools etc? Any information would be appreciated. Thanks

Safe area. Good schools. Friendly folks. Pleasant downtown area. Interesting restaurants and shops. Regular festivals and concerts. Elm Street Theater. Saturday farmers' market. What's not to like?

The only catch is that it is 40 minutes or more to downtown Atlanta.

Thanks Bill for the information. I am a stay at home mom, and my husband would be working in College Park, but he goes to work between 3 and 4am. So I'm assuming it wouldnt be that bad of a drive. We just want a nice safe family community with some stores nearby and a good school for our daughters. We don't care to much about the city. We live near Tampa now and hardly ever go there.

Other then taking him 45 minutes or more no problem. Will your husband always start work at that time even if he were to get promoted in a year or two? Starting at 8 would turn that into an hour and a half drive each way possibly.

WoodStock will be a great fit.

There will be next to No traffic @ 3-4am just bunch of truck on the road, but they are no suppose to be inside the I285 loop, (but many do go right thru downtown in the middle of the night).

Comming home @ noon there might be some traffic but nothing bad,

School are Very good in Cherokee County.

There are you normal Big Box stores, chain everything around.

I'll agree with everything Billl said above- we live in Holly Springs, which is one town north of Woodstock, and we love it. We're not much for the activities in Atlanta proper either, so we don't spend much time there- everything we need is nearby. I work in downtown Atlanta, and my hours are 6am to 4pm. My commute is 35-40 minutes in the morning, and less than an hour in the afternoon. Your husband's commute would be 10-15 minutes longer, depending on where in College Park he's going.

The schools in Cherokee County are excellent- we moved from NJ, where the schools are supposedly some of the best in the country, and have been very happy with what our kids are learning. In some cases, they're even ahead of their cousins who are in the same grades in NJ.

You'll have your pick of homes, whether you're looking for something in an older, established neighborhood, or you're looking for something brand new. You can also find homes with larger lots in some of the older parts of the county (and by "older" I mean built in the 70's-80's....lol), and you can even find horse properties if you're so inclined.

If you've got specific questions, feel free to ask.

He would be transfering his job up there, not really getting promoted. Does anyone know anything about the Sysco warehouse up there? Also, are there any colleges nearby?

Check Peachtree City and Fayette County as well. You would be much closer to his job I think. I agree, if he were ever able to work a normal shift, his life would be miserable commuting from Woodstock to College Park.
