We've had a bunch of good skyscrapers added in the last 5 years or so. 3630 Peachtree, the Mansion, the Atlantic, Twelve Centennial Park, Terminus 100, Terminus 200, Realm, the W Downtown, Loews Midtown, 12th and Midtown, Two Alliance Center, etc., etc.

However, I agree that there's not much of a market for mega towers here.

The point is, these two places have high concentrations of poverty and are located in places that have a significant impact on the city. If these both were over on the west side (Vine City) it wouldn't have much of any effect on the city.

But about skyscrapers...

People 'round here have been complaining about Atlanta not being a world class city. Well, at one time, we were very close to making that a reality.

We were once so close to true class and status for our city.

This is a good point.

That use to be an ideal location to attract choice employees from southern Gwinnett and central Dekalb via North Ave and Ponce.

With the northern growth the last two decades, it is far more valuable to be at the northern edge of Midtown, where commuters can access the 3 northern freeways before they merge into one traffic mess.

In a circular theory of how cities grow, it was Atlanta's original upper middle class strip, while Buckhead was the upper class strip.

One thing I hate is how people always complain that our skyline needs to fill in and they don't understand that we have two respectable skylines meant to be separate and there isn't much demand for offices to fill the gap.

One thing I will note... South of Colony square down to Ponce is where there is alot of zoning for Midtown's residential population. Planners are aware of this market demand nuance.

I do remember as a kid though visiting my dad's office. He worked on some of the top floors of the Bellsouth building and he had clear view of Grant field.

Those are horrible looking towers.
Atlanta's skyline is unique in that its very linear.

LOL @ people actually believing the lack of development downtown is because of poor people. If anyone really wanted to build down there that bad that element would've been gone a long time ago.

So, are you saying that if the Peachtree Pine shelter wasn't there, the North Avenue area would look exactly the same?
