Why can't God help them? The city has a lot on its plate and is only human, but God is omnipotent, omnisciennt, etc., so it shouldn't be too much of a burden.

What I don't understand is why is the city involved in this at all.

Wasn't the state of Georgia supposed to supply the land? Don't they own the stadium when it is paid off? (Assuming it is still standing 40 years from now, which seems unlikely).

The hype was that the city of Atlanta would "only" have to chip in $300 million for construction costs, but that seems increasingly foggy.

Because the state is ran by republicans that don't want to be directly involved in public money going to a billionaire. So they make the city of Atlanta do they're dirty work.

The thing you guys either don't get because you live really close to a MARTA station or aren't thinking about is for most people in metro Atlanta MARTA is an inconvenience already getting to it. Most people already have to get in their car to drive and park at a MARTA station or at least take a bus. If people are already having to drive to the MARTA station adding in an extra 10-15 minutes of walking is going to get most of them to just keep driving right to the game. MARTA also is getting expensive enough that it isn't any cheaper than driving either. So you make something as expensive for 2-4 people and take longer, they are smart enough to avoid doing it like most people do already at Braves games. Lets not make the same mistake with the Falcons and the dozens of other events at the new stadium.

Exactly! That reminds me of when I went with family to a football game in Clemson. Had to park out at the golf course, walk a quarter of a mile, make a left and walk a half mile, then right and up the hill. They need some parking garages and better transit in that city. As for this dome site they need to look at that as an example, if you won't walk or roll yourself at least a half mile then you don't want to see that game bad enough to be there in person. Stay home.

Ya that is a great attitude for a business that relies on fans showing up, paying them money, and buying food and beers.....

Agreed on multiple levels. Some of the same people that walk blocks and blocks to the SEC Championship and Chick-Fil-A Kickoff Games can't do the same a few more times a year. I wonder if the people that whine about walking to a football game ever played football, or exercise at all for that matter

Selling out 80+ baseball games in a park the size of Turner Field is one thing, but selling out 8 weekend/evening football games for a winning team in a football crazed part of the country? As long as they're successful, people will get to Falcons games. A bigger reason why people don't make a bigger effort to attend Braves games is the area it's in, and even that is changing.

Wait a minute.

Are you saying the state of Georgia has already backed out on its specific commitment to provide and acquire the land for this thing??

How much more of this is going to be dumped back on Atlanta taxpayers? Why are the mayor and city council going along with this? Seems like the city would just tell the state, "Whoa! We don't have money for something like this and you're the one who agreed to pay for it! We can't even fix our potholes and sidewalks or fund our parks!"

-- The NSP will be situated on the GWCCA Campus on one of the two proposed
site locations either north or south of the Georgia Dome as shown on Exhibit B
attached hereto and with such additional real property as may be reflected in the
MOU (the “NSP Site”).

-- GWCCA will be responsible for obtaining rights to and providing to StadCo,
under the terms of the StadCo License (defined below) or other related
agreements, all real property and real property rights that are part of the NSP Site
and necessary for construction of the NSP
. However, any property provided by
GWCCA for the NSP Site will be provided "as is", taking into account all
existing conditions, including environmental conditions and conditions relating
to adjacent properties or other properties in proximity to the NSP Site (such as
existing utilities, pipelines, railroad tracks and other existing infrastructure).

There are plenty disabled folks who are fans just as well as the young and able bodied. Don't insult them.
