Ask my neighbor -- he's married to a French woman and they have a home in Paris as well as here.
But "among the most beautiful urban neighborhoods in the world!" is really sticking your neck out. It begs for some authoritative support.

There's really no point in responding to a post as ill-informed and juvenile as this, and one so obviously intended to incite as well. But here goes anyway:

Savannah is known AROUND THE WORLD for having one of the most ingenious city plans ever created. It was the first planned city in the United States, laid out and built on an elaborate GRID SYSTEM interspersed with a series of public parks and squares. It was designed in 1733 by Gen. James Oglethorpe, founder of Georgia. Today, 280 years later, not only does the grid remain intact, it functions brilliantly in the modern era -- controlling the flow of both pedestrian and vehicular traffic while contributing to one of the most lively, dynamic and beautiful urban landscapes in the entire nation. Indeed, Savannah is generally regarded as THE MOST BEAUTIFUL CITY IN AMERICA. So there.

Also, Savannah has TONS of culture -- it's one of the most sophisticated and cosmopolitan small cities in the country. It's also home to SCAD, the largest art school in the nation. So there, again.

Every time I go to Savannah I'm jealous of how dense and alive it is, and the colonial architecture just makes it that much better. Atlanta could learn a lot from it. We still have a ways to go but I think we'll get to Savannah's level someday. In the mean time I'll just have to keep going to the coast to get my "urban fabric" fix

What made your comments so assinine is in London they don't talk about Paris style neighborhoods or NYC style neighborhoods or Tokyo style neighborhoods... they talk about London style neighborhoods.

Same goes for Paris, NYC, Tokyo, etc...

As far as someone loving Atlanta's curvy tree lines streets... yea... get over yourself.. it really is nice and less dull than a typical grid in some places, especially as you get outside of high value character areas of cities

I'm in awe at how ignorant this comment is. I honestly don't believe you've ever seen Savannah before or you wouldn't have said this.

Seriously guy, go visit and you'll understand what a true gridded city is. Atlanta's got the population, but it's all spread out into never never land.

Anyway, the quote below is what it's all about.

I really wish people would get over this love affair they have with Europe.

You want to talk about Paris? This is what a modern-day suburb of Paris looks like:

Look familiar, anyone?

Can we please stop bringing Europe up in these conversations as if the entire continent is somehow immune to the same car-centric sprawl that happened here in the 20th century?

Sprawl is happening all over the world. You just don't see it when you travel because you don't LIVE there. You visit the tourist areas or see photos of their historic areas which were built long before cars existed (much like Savannah's). From the outside looking in, "Paris" means historic Paris. "London" means historic London. Go beyond that, though, and they have all the same horrible chain restaurants and strip malls sprawled out all over the place. It's a 20th century problem, not an American one, and certainly not an Atlanta one.

Atlanta posters can be very delusional sometimes. Are you really trying to compare Atlanta's neighborhoods to the bustling neighborhoods of Paris, London, Tokyo, and NYC? What? I'm in awe...Atlanta posters will stay in their deluded worlds and think Atlanta is talked around the world and world renowned for it's 'beautiful urban neighborhoods' while Paris and NYC continues to get millions of international tourists and laugh in your faces.

NO!

Someone made a passing comment that simply said some Atlanta neighborhoods are among the most beautiful in the world ... [due to the curves, tree canopy, etc..]

Someone else with an anti-Atlanta perspective being a bit of a Smart___ brought up Paris and London.
