How cute, Midtown just released renderings for a 920' residential tower.

Wait, are we seriously comparing an edge city to the core city? Nearly 100% cars dependent Cumberland business district, with no high capacity mass transit, is supposed to have 70-story towers? Huh? Ain't nobody want that kind of traffic mess.

I'll be interested to see how many of the folks who purchase high end condos in this Midtown tower are MARTA riders.

Doesn't Cumberland have some sort of height restriction on buildings? The group of buildings on the NE corner of the 285/75 intersection seem to be of suspiciously similar height for some reason.

There will never be 70 story towers or even 50 story towers in the Cumberland area even if there was mass transit - The fact that Dobbins AFB is just two miles up the road has limited the height of office buildings in the Cumberland/Galleria area for years.

If you have ever seen the Blue Angels perform (from Dobbins) you would be a little shocked that they do what they do so close to the high rise office buildings at the intersection of I-285 and Cobb Parkway. Residents of Smyrna have seen them skim the tree tops when they have put on a show.

Over 20 years ago, an Air Force plane (not a Blue Angel) crashed on approach to Dobbins and there were a number of fatalities on the ground in an apartment complex in the northern part of Smyrna near Windy Hill Rd.

Whatever opposition there might be to the restrictions which Dobbins causes is always met with "Well, Dobbins AFB was here first."

By contrast, the Perimeter Center is just far enough away from the Peachtree DeKalb Airport to not experience the height restrictions which Cumberland office parks face.

Ah. Large groups of metal parts flying in formation. I get it.

I bet they do at a much higher rate than elsewhere in the metro. When I lived in my Midtown condo I didn't own a car.
