Hi all, first time poster but this forum has helped me before from time to time and I hope you all can offer some more tailored to my situation:

I currently live in Edgewood, right behind the retail district. It's a perfect location for me as I do not drive, and I'd love to stay around the area if possible. However considering I have some rather specific requirements (the main one, in addition to being no more than 15 and preferably less than a ten minute walk to a train station, is a fenced in yard for my dog. This is the reason I'm moving) and the fact I pay the lower end of going rent for the area I am very much open to looking at other neighborhoods. My future roommate and I are women in our early twenties, we have a pretty small budget ($850 plus utilities), and are sensible (we don't walk around late at night alone, ect) but we don't want to be in a place where there is likely to be trouble. Since we obviously need a house or duplex, I was wondering what the current situation downtown and in South Atlanta is like? I've heard some good things. I talked to a young lady last month who has a house in Adair Park and loves it. I'm also very partial to the 1920s bungalows Atlanta is so famous for and know West End, College Park, and Capitol View have some lovely examples. Can anyone who currently lives around there give me impressions on what you think of safety, as well as restaurants and things to do? Neither of us are big club lovers, our idea of a night out is a drink with a few friends at a low key bar. I'd also love to be near a good park/green space. Thank you so much everyone, your input is much appreciated!

College Park and East Point have great little bungalows, and fenced yards and fairly normal. Plus right on the Marta line. The crime in these places are standard City crime - not much different from Edgewood - maybe a little bit better since both Cities have their own PD.

Cool, thanks! I'm making some inquiries in that area.

I have seen some really cute bungalows (with fenced backyards) in the historic section of College Park.

A friend of mine is considering to moving to a condo near the retail district, however she is concerned about the safety of walking to the Edgewood Candler MARTA station. I have been in that area, and it looked pretty safe to me.

I'd say Edgewood/Candler Park is pretty safe, though I do try to avoid walking alone late at night (which I would do anywhere in Atlanta). I really love it, it's close to everything and very doable to go car-less.

I think you can live almost anywhere in the city as long as you use common sense.
