I think it just seemed that way to you.

People rarely drive fast on the residential streets. Maybe they were doing 30-35. 50? no way.

The bigger problem I see is that almost nobody actually stops at the stop signs.

Unfortunately, we live in a major metro area, and people are still under the impression that there should be 0 traffic during rush hour.
SPEED is the issue.

We live in a city and I recognize that other people will drive on my street. No problem with that.

However, when they flout the law and drive faster than the 25 mph speed limit, that is a very, very big problem. That is selfish, dangerous and outrageous.

Obviously you have not seen what Waze has done to our intown neighborhoods, by routing commuter traffic thru them to avoid congestion on the freeways.

Not surprised at this post. OP tries to take shots at ITP every month or so, it's his MO.

I hope this makes you feel better about your life!

I've thought people speed on my street, but I've clocked them in my car. Nobody drives 50. Nobody drives 45. Almost nobody drives 40. Usually its 35 when you think they are going really fast and that's not common. And its probably your neighbors doing it.

I think the speed limits are too low on residential streets that are through streets and too high in school zones. Some school zones have 40 mph speed limits. I haven't seen any less than 25. Schools should be 20 and through streets should be 30. If you have it too low without a special reason, it gets ignored. And having a lower school speed limit grabs your attention to be more alert.

Well the OP is not personally insulting you. The OP is making an observation. Does insulting the OP make you feel better about your life?

"Waze?"

I drive through midtown pretty regularly and sometimes through Inman Park/Old 4th Ward. I don't know what particular intown neighborhoods you are referring to.

Please point out where I insulted the OP, I will be happy to edit my message if that is indeed the case.

I'm extremely happy with my life, thanks for asking.

I really do not think it is rare, although I can't back up my statement with any actual data. But from personal experience, people are easily driving 45-55mph down Cherokee by the zoo on days when there aren't a ton of cars parked on the street. There are TONS of kids crossing by bike, peds crossing with strollers, and joggers out and about. The speed limit is 30-35 depending on the stretch you're on. Some of the worst offenders are Zone 3 police officers. People coming from south metro areas use Cherokee as a cut through to avoid the highway. I'm completely fine with that if they follow the speed limits, but they often don't. The only thing that slows people down are busy zoo days. When there are a lot of cars parallel parked, lots more people crossing the street, and a lot of cars going slow looking for a spot, traffic slows drastically. I'd much prefer that kind of urban experience than people flying through to get to their destination a little faster.

I agree about the stop signs, people don't stop. I especially get angry when people don't stop for pedestrians in the crosswalk, even when there is a sign reminding them that it is the law. This happens on Cherokee a lot, but even I'm afraid to cross Boulevard. People FLY down that street, and one day someone will be killed.
