As far as some other 'neighborhoods' that developers are out there pumping up, like 'Uptown' and 'SoNo', I'll just say this: Lord, let it never be so.
Watch as the Beltline's ascendancy creates a plethora of new faux neighborhoods, thanks to the developerazzi.
I tend to agree. Many of the place names we now view as historic were made up developer's names back in the day. West End, Druid Hills, Tuxedo Park, Beecher Hills -- all were plucked from the air by developers.

However, some developers did a better job of it than others. I don't think I'll be around long enough to adopt Sono. To me that just sounds dumb.

The difference being those names were created, most of the time, by the founding developers. The areas matured, declined, and in some cases rebounded with those names. West Midtown and Upper Westside have 0 historical relevance.

Good point, cq. I guess we'll see if these new names withstand the test of time.

Wasn't Atlantic Station named after the Atlantic Steel Mill that it was built over? At least they kept part of the name.

Although I'm not a fan of these nouveau hip names, West Midtown is better than something like WeMi or WoNo (west of Northside).

True....we definitely don't need hipster internet-style names.

That was a steel mill and not an official neighborhood.
